Well, I did get the slightly hostile response I was expecting ;-)

I have been stalking around the forums nearly since 0.6, and I am no stranger to fastrope discussions. I know the rules, and so do you.

However, in defense of my post, the idea struck me as something that maybe had not been thought of and if, like someone suggested here, I have to spend 3 months poring over all the fastropes discussions ever discussed to find some obscure reference similar to what I thought of before I post anything, with no keyword to know what I'm looking for in DEV explanations, I am inclined to tell such persons to stick it where the sun don't shine.

I was hoping that my post would bring across that I am aware and equally disdainful of all the mindless 1337 F457ROpeZ posts, but had an idea that potentially offered a new approach. I was aware that this might not be doable, or wished for, and I think it is obvious that I didn't write: "PR should have fastropes from helicopters".

I never claimed this would work, look good, or even be a good idea. How should I know what the allmighty DEVs have come up with to implement new features? What if all other people who were considering suggestions thought to themselves: "I guess the omniscient DEVs probably already thought of this, and it must not work, since it's not ingame already!"

So, before I get stuck in this rant, let me give you all what you've REALLY been wanting to hear:

I think PR should have fastropes, so that choppers don't have to land when troops want to get out. Bash away!

[EDIT] Wow, it seems like today is a pretty stressful one for me... I guess I might have gone a little over the top. No offence to anyone intended. I still love PR and still greatly appreciate the quality of the PR community. I was probably expecting the post to get shot down, but I was hoping the target would be the idea, not the post.

hmmm my only thought on this is via python... and while it should be capable of being done i cant vouch for the reliability of it yet (havent tested it , just figured it out).

heli pilot has an option added to their rose, "deploy fast rope" . when they use this python grabs the press via rcon and spawns a rope at the heli's xyz cords.

major major problems
- doesnt take into account the heli moving (and cant since its a spawned object)
- possible to exploit

on another note what someone said about the grapple is interesting... but i havent look at what controls what the grapple can attach to, if you could make a custom grapple you could have the heli have one orientated so it fired at it self. still the issue of getting down alive though.

oh well. What if we could recreate this mod on the 1942 engine. That would basically solve all the problems. Wtv.

Moving ladders dont work. Battleship mod tried this. If you start climbing a 50m ladder, and it moves you are going keep going up until you reach 50m above ground, and then fall if the ladder (or platform above) moved away.

I was wondering, you know how when you right click when driving the Supply truck the supply crate falls out, what about if the piolet right clicks, a rope decends out from teh side of the chopper, and when you exit vehicles in some mods, you would be standing on the roof of the vehicle and not at the side of it. what about when a right click is triggered and the rope decends when the troopers bail out they go down the fast rope automaticaly?

from playing FH, or from what i remember if it is or is not in the mod any more, you have to access tanks from the side, and when you bail out your on the turret or the top of the tank , having different entrance and exit locations, maybe that would work? just throwing it out there.

No, this doesn't work. If/when said rope hits another static or the ground, bad things happen. Definite props for searching, a deeper search would have answered your question though.

Thus the props on the search, my Resuggest is directed at the OP. ;)
