Some sniper questions for pros!

Post by Koroush47 »

When sniping, i got a hint that if i move my scope... i should wait about 2 seconds for full deviation.

two questions:

1: When i scope out and then scope in again.... do i need to wait 8 seconds? Or just 2 like above?

2. If i switch to pistol, but not move my body... then go back to sniper... do i have to wait 8 seconds again? OR is your deviation only effected by your body moving or not?

(It would be nice to have a meter on the side of your screen to show your deviation, since they can't make sway work for the game.)

In my experience, scoping in/out partially resets your deviation, so you need the 4-8 seconds (depending on if you're standing/crouching/prone. Changing weapons is going to put you back to a full 8 seconds, even with no WASD movement.

Again, I haven't really thoroughly tested this, but in my personal experience, this seems to be the case. I used to snipe a LOT, but haven't really done much since .85

Aiming down your scope determines what the deviation is once you unscope it goes away.

You can hit moving targets as long as you are slowly moving your scope. but don't jerk it around kinda like how the HAT kit is.

the time you wait to shoot depends on how close they are if they are pretty close wait 4-5 seconds or long range targets like almost out of view range wait 8 seconds.

You will have to wait the 8s I assume. Take a look at the Anti-Tank kit. If you switch to the M4, let's say, and pull out the HAT again. I'm pretty sure you have to wait for the side rings to center on the target again.

Also, in vBF2, when pulling out a pistol then switching back to the PKM, the crosshair's deviation would slowly decrease in size.

Hope that answers your 2nd question. :)

If you switch to M4 and go back to the HAT you actually have to ready your weapon first so that isn't really a good example but what you are saying is correct switching weapons or going out of the scope will erase the deviation and re scoping will start it over again.

No, scoping/unscoping will not give you a temporary deviation penalty.

No, the 8 second penalty is only incurred by WASD movement.

That's true. It was the only weapon that had visible aim indicators, so I used it to try to illustrate the deviation. :)

Yup and the deviation is the same while moving take for example when you slowly move the scope of the HAT the reticule will stay small imagine the same for the sniper.

I would like to see something like that for a sniper, maybe a meter off to the side of the screen that will let you know when to fire, IRL a sniper would know exactly what time to fire and in game we don't have that luxury besides to count and hope its steady.

Yeah that is true.

In RL the sniper can see the sway... so he knows where his shot will land all the time.... were the crosshairs are.

In PR the crosshairs can be on somebody... but the shot would be miles off.

A little meter.. or even something like a HAT crosshair thing [ The ( )s ] for the snipers Would be nice.

Nonetheless, the following should not be attempted in any PR battlefield.

YouTube - BF2 Karkand/Jalalabad sniping

I'm pretty sure I'm correct and here's why: there are only 3 things that cause deviation in PR 1) WASD movement, 2) mouse movement, and 3) firing your weapon. Since scoping/unscoping and switching between weapons are not one of these 3 things, then those actions will not cause deviation penalties. But, scoping in will reduce your deviation and muzzle climb.

scope in and out dont and weapon switch will not result in lose of deviation. Try it out, point a laser with sofalm, switch and shoot without movement. You´ll hit!

It's true. I have crosshairs tattooed on my eyeballs.

Its been proved that changing weapons does not affect the deviation. Ive done and seen where *even with the M16* you can sight in a target with the binocs and switch to the weapon and get a perfect shot without waiting.
