I think it'd be good on one of the Crytek engines. Crytek is getting older now and more and more people will be able to run it perfectly. Plus, the Crytek III engine will be optimized to get the most effects out of the lowest amount of hardware (like COD4 did).

It would be really good if only they had a squad system, which i think can be coded within the menus then redirect the voip to only the people in your squad? might be too complicated probably alot harder than it sounds. but then we would have destroyable everything and physics and time of day and other good stuff. It just needs the gameplay.

lol another engine thread....

the devs have access to a new engine , its called torque I think... although im not sure if they will use it...

I think the unreal engine is really interesting , but you have to look at reality as well, and that is, it has taken an awful amount of time to get this far, and for them to go into a new engine means starting all over again, also it takes time to really get to know an engine, I mean use it to its fullest potential... so you must be realitics..

I think the DEVS have done really far in getting this far.. I would love to see better graphics, better third person animation, but its alot of work...

also CRYTEK engine is very harsh on hardware, I think only the most powerful systems can only just about run it, and thats using the new i7 core intel processor, with a nvidia GTX 295 card.. so no I would disagree and say that I dont think more and more people will able to run it perfectly...

you have to remeber that the DEVS have really pushed the graphics in the bf2 engine, and whatever engine they may use in the future, they would also push teh hardware on that...

I am using a core 2 2.4 ghz processor with a nvidia 7900 GTX card, and belive me I lag on the newer maps... and as for crysis , on full deatils I barely run on 5 FPS... so crytek, even though it looks like a really awesome engine, just wont cut it... in my humbe opinion...

but we can see what teh DEVS have produced so I think , it is safe to leave it in their hands, coz Im sure they know what is best for MOD...

just my 2 cents

3 important requirements off the top of my head:

- Does it support a squad system (including VOIP)?

- Does it support at least 64 players?

- Does it actually offer anything worthwhile over the BF2 engine?

Whilst the Unreal 3 engine roughly meets the first 2 (if you mod Frontlines) the Crysis engine doesn't, unless the license was bought and the engine was heavily modified (not going to happen).

AFAIK the developers aren't going to bother with another engine if the only noticeable benefit is improved graphics/physics, especially if important gameplay factors would be compromised.

This.

Now, the engine given to the PR team by ModDB sounds pretty good. It can support untold amounts of players, tons of networking potential (VOIP, players, destructables), and the interface and player structure can be custom coded.

BUT, then someone has to CODE all of that. It isn't nearly as easy as you think. They have to code everything from scratch (Think: Connecting the clicking of the mouse to firing a weapon, and telling the weapon in what direction to fire, where the bullet should come from, then what path the bullet has to take, what happens when the bullet hits something, if it does hit something what does it do, what does it do if it hits sand vs rock, then there is the triggering of animations, muzzle rise, recoil, etc etc etc)

I say neither.
And go to the Fing engine thread, someone move this or merge it or something.
