Sniper netting/hide

Post by Rapid12 »

Would it be possible to make a sniper net/hide part of the sniper kit? WHen deployed you would hide under it and become invisible. The only time you would be spotted from a distance is when your muzzle fire is seen.

Of course for desert maps you would need a large piece of sandpaper.

Would be to obvious where a sniper was you would just have to look for the netting, I would love to see something like this in game though if it could be worked in a way that it was discrete. The thing about sniper netting is it blocks out the sunlight from coming in a room but it lets you see out, in bf2 the lighting/shadows are not good enough to actually make this possible. So I don't see how you would be able to see out but not in. It would be even better if there was some kind of realistic gillysuit.

Idk what you mean by invisible but if you mean actually invisible its not going to happen.

He is talking about ghili suits. They used to be ingame, but they were removed for this release. They made sniping seem glamorous, and people treated sniper kits incorrectly, I suppose. Hasn't changed much.

I still oppose the removal, perhaps a Dev can come in here and clear this up?

I don't think he is talking about ghili suits.

Also the ghili suit didn't work properly because after a distance the Kit lod disappears and you can only see the base player model so the ghili suit was pointless, also sniper ghili suits are made from the brush surrounding them so having that crappy bf2 ghili suit on every map was pointless and they probably were not gonna make a custom one for each map.

They had this in the old BF1942 Star Wars mod Galactic Conquest.

The sniper kit would get one deployable box that had the avarage color of the current map on the outside(brown on desert maps, white on snow maps etc), but was transparant from the inside.

Worked quite well actually.
But I don't see it working that well in PR with the increased terrain detail compared to 1942. Not to mention how odd it would look.

i still think they should have a desert ghillie and a woodland for every faction.

even if it doesnt blend in that good, it might move the sniper into a spot that proves to be compatible to his basic color pattern.

that would only work for the conventional/professional snipers.

The problem is(as mentioned above) not that it doesn't blend it, but rather that the ghillie suit dissapears after a certain distances, making it useless at long range.

The way something like this would have to work is it would need to be a deployable and enter able vehicle. Then this vehicle LOD would have a small invisible LOD at so many meters out. Only using bincos or scope would you be able to see it.

Of course you can see all the problems this has as it would need to be a objects similar to the 50cal depolyable nest. It would also suffer from the spawning way in the air. Then other option is to make the players far LOD a bush (which might not work ether)

End of the day it doesn't really work right. Its better to use the land and objects as cover. I've been quite successful as a sniper by using the land, objects as cover, and some basic PR sniping tips. Keep your movement down (big give away at distance), move after a few shots, never camp a position.

End of day play smarter as in using the game world and understanding to your advantage.
