[VISTA] Lag in PR

Post by TF6049 »

Any help on this issue? I get lagged quite a bit in PR (only in helis) and seem to not have much in vBF? Why is this, and how to fix it? (Connection probs when flying them)

UPDATE: I have heard Norton lags people's computers. I am planning to uninstall it (doing so now, went for Avast). This might be part of it?

UPDATE 2: It seems to occur other places. I am on a 170ish ping server with occasional lag. Could it be the fact i use wireless internet?

Probably best to address your question here, your more likely to get an accurate answer.

I've had something similar. Wireless internet may be an issue especially if you are on a 170ish ping server you will not get smooth gameplay, although it depends on your d/l speed/bandwidth?

It's unlikely to actually be norton that causes it, more likely that if you are running a firewall it will cause problems, again dependent on your bandwidth.

Really the best thing to do is turn your settings down if you are planning on flying...

I would suggest that you use the modified bf2.exe : it solved most of my lag problems (find it here : https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... -85-a.html )

As for your updates, norton usually doesn't cause any lag (using win vista 32 with norton 360 200 8) , but you might still want to try deactivating the firewall (PB). On the other hand, wireless does cause connection issues ("your connection has been lost") and a pretty high ping too (I get ~90 in wireless and ~60 in cable)

Hope it helps.

Chargat.

PS : shouldn't this be under tech support?

The thing is this doesn't happen in SP, therefore removing the possibility it's a non-internet issue.

UPDATE 3: It occurs in bursts (like 30 secs of fine, a sec of lag, 30 secs of fine, etc...)

Have done the memory thing, just now got an MD5 kick as well...

In that case I suggest you try and wire it up, did wonders for me, especially about the
"your connection has been lost" problem (reason for which I never fly). If it is just a ping problem, I suggest trying to connect to the nearest server (might need VBF2...) and checking it there (sometimes one particular server lags for some people (Seems like TG hates me  ))

Good luck, and will see if I can help any more,
Chargat.

That's what I thought would help. Going to be an hour or two until I can try that (if I can).

i dont know but it seems to me like a combination of vista+norton+wireless internet on a 170 ping server just sounds like a recipe for lag.

Lol mmmhm

If its happening in little bursts then that sounds like video lag combined with a poor internets. The reason it wouldn't happen on SP is because there are different requirements for online and offline games due to distance from the server, number of people on the server etc. etc.

Turn your settings down a little bit, concentrate on lighting etc, and wire up your connection.

Definitely the WLAN, I had the same problem, huge 1-2 second lagspikes every 60 seconds.

I use this program and it solved all my problems, just run it each time you start the PC or go to play PR.

So far Alex has appeared to have taken the cake - I will report when I do more tests 8-)

Also, will a mod add Alex's add-on to the "If you are having lag, do this first" thread? (Will repeal if I have problems, but said problems are unlikely ;) )

UPDATE #4: Occasional lag spikage, but nothing that will impair my cobra flying (ping of server is 45ish)

On another note, I think I have found a source of my PB problems...kicks for my mods/BF2 differences

UPDATE 5 #5: Yep...this cake is for Alex :)
