Solution to MD5 kicks?

Post by TF6049 »

[QUOTE = EvenBalance]
This kick has been added by the serveradmin to check the integrity of certain files on the client. These checks are not default and have to be manually added by the server-admin.

When you are kicked for a MD5Tool Mismatch you will always see the file in question. Example:

MD5Tool Mismatch: etpro/cgame_mp_x86.dll

Basically there are two different causes when you are kicked for a MD5 violation:

* The file DOES exist on your pc, while the server expected you would NOT have it

* The file does exist on your pc, while the server expected a different version (different MD5 hash).

When you are kicked for such a violation, check if you have this file or not. When it's not part of the default installation of the game, deleting this file might be needed. When you do have this file, make sure you have the original and latest official version of this file. Reinstalling of either the latest game patch(es) or the game might be needed.

Is this kick really needed?

Also I am getting mods/bf2 violations, NOT mods/pr...

If they didn't do the checks, people could(and would) modify their own files to give them lots of unfair advantages.

Yes absolutely it is needed.

If this was not present then people would be able to mod the game themselves to suit them, eg. overpowering their weapons, increasing sprint time, being able to 1 man vehicles etc. etc.

It means that you're missing/have changed a file in your BF2 folder at some point and yeah mods/BF2 will still kick you from PR. I suggest a reinstall or find what has been changed.

It doesn't stop hackers anyway! Yesterday we played on Dam server's and one guy named "OWNAGE Bunnyhopper" was using a aimbot. It was ridiculous.

I guess "fun" has a very different meaning for those kiddy ******** who ruin the gameplay

I'm led to believe MD5 kicks are for modified game files, such as different textures and weapon values. This could make things very easy for the abuser. Aimbots are in a different category of cheating. Just saying.

Unfortunately, this measure against cheaters affects regular players. I've been kicked for MD5 discrepancy once. That may have been the wireless Internet however. :p

And I've noticed some servers catch the cheater prior to them even joining. It's all very nicely presented, orange text sprinkled in, and everything in big letters. :D

By trying too hard, we put ourselves at a greater risk. Don’t you think so?

I seen someone get banned for aimbot by punkbuster just 2 days ago.

I remember one round on fullujah that 7 different hackers got kicked by PB all in the same round.

MD5 tool is not relevant to people using aimbot. PB will sort them out.

Hmm...can an R-Dev answer this? DOES PR USE ANY VANILLA CONTENT?

If not, then these kicks are completely stupid.

I dont think what the content is matters, the MD5 checks are to check that the client has the same values for everything as the sever, so I cant tweak my g3 to fire rockets, then load up on a server and do so.

The md5 checks are there to ensure consistency amongst players. Yes, PR is a mod for BF2, so there will be some recurrence of files being used.

Check which file you are being kicked for specifically, and get someone to upload that file to a webspace. Once you copy it over it will have the right md5 hash and bam no more issues.
