Game settings/Best gameplay

Post by shadowcreaper »

Need some advise as it seems this area of thought rather clouded.

i got a good pc, 4870, e8800 4gb ram and a lovely CRT monitor running 1280x1024.

my question this: when i play bf2142 or bf2 i run the highest specs/automatic specs and have no issues and game looks great and plays great.

yet when i come to this game i let the settings do it themselfs ie defualt/automatic, yet i finding i cannot see enermy very clear.

my point is: what settings should i have so that i can get the best "tactical" advantage, ie can see enermy/people clearly as it seems this game isnt optimised enough for high spec pcs.

some people said running low settings gives best advantage ect, but tbh that sucks if that the case.

so to recap:

what settings should i have with my nice pc to run game and be able to see/play with best possible advantage?

any advise wellcome, this isnt a tech support question but a general help/advise/tip/trick question.

1280x1024 means you are in 4:3 aspect ratio which means you have **** vision at long range, welcome to my world. lower the settings to medium I guess and see if that helps. I think if 1280x1024 is your max you are stuck with it unless you get a new monitor, not sure if you can force it in game. If you can I would like to know how.

Don't set them too low. You can get unfair advantages by turning it very low, such as disappearing grass, but I'd just not do that.

To the OP.
Your PC will run PR at the highest settings at 60+ fps on any map.
Also your ATI 4870 is not being fully utilised at the 1280x1024 screen resolution, at low resolutions the CPU takes on more work than the GPU(i don't know why, it just does), if you purchase a larger monitor you will see a performance increase as the CPU off-loads the work load to the GPU. Your game will also look much sharper and show more detail in the distant objects etc..
Bassicly your ATI4870 is over kill for the resolution your playing at.

Make sure your view distance is at 100%. And other than that, get a bigger monitor ;)

The reason your probably finding it hard to see players in PR is because unlike BF2 and 2142, they hide instead of running about in the open bunny hopping everywhere.

just to say my monitor very good tbh and havnt been able to find a decent non crt to replace it thus sticking with this one.

my monitors max res is 1600x1200 but ofc i dont play this on most games as i find that quite a few games transfere this 1600x1200 into my destop settings which in turn means tiny tiny every thing.

just to confirm, if i have my res upped to 1600x1200, my moni max res i will get better visual ingame then ?

sinse i ask this as i sure most people dont play this game with 1600x1200 and i sure they find it fine so it cant be just the res..

Most ppl play with 1600x1050 so quite close to yours, but really, the larger rez you have the easier it should be to see players since they are so many more pixels bigger. Someone playing on 1024x768 for example is going to try and spot something almost something that is 1/2 the size as you do.

Again, the reason you are finding it harder to see players is because the players in PR hide, as well as your trying to spot them over a larger distances etc where in vBF2 and BF2142 they are all bunny hopping about in the open, you have UAVs etc to show them up.

Just check the area around you very thoroughly before you decide to cross the road, open ground or w/e.

I like the 1600x1200,over 1920x1200 (with the shortcut) that is native for my monitor. The reason you "can't" see the enemy is maybe because they're using the scope? :-P

Just make sure a squadmate is walking in front of you, if you keep getting shot from out of nowhere.
If you can read this the ***** fell off.

the only important thing you must have all the way up in settings is the view distance!

everything else can be on low and you'll still be fine, PR's low settings arent as bad as you may think as long as your running a high resolution!

keep in mind even though many, like me love high graphics and i run everything on high! and anti alising at times 6, it doent give much of a tactical advvantage, and it is better to run a smooth game

then a choppy one, cause thats where you'll get the advantage!

4:3 is the only native ratio available.BF2/PR has no wide screen support.
You can run the wide screen resolution with shortcut/widescreen fixer but it's not
the same.So 4:3 is all we get

Yes the native resolution is the best a monitor can do. Your 4870 will actually have improved performance running at 1600x1200(if this is your native size) over 1280x1024.
