BF2 Update 1.50 - More incredible news

Post by Grasli »

Well, I thought I should share this with you - more news on the coming Update for Battlefield 2 which Bazajaytee from DICE released today. As you can see below, the hit detection will be improved. That means it will also be improved for PR, doesn't it? And they are also looking at removing the need of having the DVD in the drive for starting the game :D And afaik there's also more - some things that are not on this list - maybe widescreen support?
Firstly, sorry I have been away for so long, its been a busy time. So here as per request in a number of threads here is an update to where we are with 1.50.
Yes its still coming
- We have been working on a few things to do with DRM as old versions of Battlefield 2 use an old version of SafeDisc
- We have had a number of last minute hacks appear which we have made fixes for to help stabalise the servers.
- We have a minor issue to solve with the Chinese version of the game.
While I can't give an exact date, we are aiming to release our first Beta towards the end of April '09 as long as everything else goes well.
DRM?
What we are looking at doing for Battlefield is removing the requirement for the DVD to be in the drive during boot up. Whether we can get this going is what we are checking. It won't limit your installs on other machines or limit how many times you can install though.
============
Update v1.50 Changelog (as of today)
============
FEATURES
- Additional support for Windows Vista.
- Added Highway Tampa as a required map.
- Added a new map called Operation Blue Pearl.
GAMEPLAY TWEAKS
- Changes made to both the J10 and F35B to make them more balanced. Please note that the J10 is a superior dogfighter to the F35B and as such these two aircraft will never be equally matched.
- AA targeting tweaked to make it more effective.
- Added checks to prevent "runway grieving". (If a player stands in front of a jet, he cant punish the pilot when teamkilled, and the pilot does NOT loose any points either.)
- Various changes made to prevent cheating.
- Tweaked the hit detection, hits will be more accurate to the model.

Does this sound awesome or what?
One thing I have noticed is that it doesn't say anything about widescreen support, nor anything about bugfixes. I guess time will show.. ;)

Obv. sounds good but wudn't the whole of PR have to be re-patched to work with it?

Plus widescreen and vista work fine for me already... :p

Yes. Expect BF2 1.50 to break your copy of PR 0.85, if you install it immediately.

As soon as the patch is available to the Team to get their grubby little paws on, we'll be looking at what needs to be done to make 0.85 compatible with v1.50.

Until that hotfix can be released, your options are to either not install v1.50 or not play PR... obviously, we'd prefer you to hold on ;)

We'll see. Thats what we are afraid of - a lot of compatibility problems for PR.. :/

Or copy the BF2 folder and have two versions installed at the same time - same procedure as with earlier beta's ;)

i dont like this hitbox change.

but the non-cd requirement is good. i was actually having problems lately with installing my bf2 for my brother, we couldnt play on the same server unfortunatly. so good news for me :)

i wonder if the CD issue is connected with CTD hacking.

Looking forward to this.

Psyko you cant have the same hash on the same server. I had the same problem with my bro but he went out and got another copy of bf2.
