Parachute for Sniper

Post by NikovK »

Parachutes should be given to snipers so they can do way-cool HALO insertions into jungles from helicopters. Frankly, that's all the arguement we need on the subject, but if you wish to make further supporting arguements you are welcome to it.

Hehe, now parachuting onto strategic locations would be really cool. The fact is, I see this causing the sniper class to be even more used\abused...

Yea... uhhh.... no...

Snipers would just abuse the new parachute to jump off roof tops.

If you start giving parachutes to classes other than Spec Ops,
then people will start wanting parachutes for all the other
classes. Thus, they will continue their most current use in
vBF2, which is jumping off of buildings.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for super-cool HALO jumps into
the midst of the jungle. But, for now, let's just leave the
Spec Ops with that ability.

Have you seen spec ops parachute abusing like crazaaaaay?

And stealthily inserting into the target zone on a parachute is -so- sniper, where as hopping off the skids into mud is -so- grunt. Lets not suggest a slippery slope here; just expand to sniper, and that's it.

I see your point.. but is there no way of just giveing the shute a 5 sec delay.. rendering roof-top jumps imposible..???

Better yet, make the parachute temporarily available only
after an aircraft was exited.

But, even that could lead to problems.

Special Forces get a chute because they're exceptionally trained elite badasses. Aren't snipers exceptionally trained elite badasses?

The funny thing is parachutes can actually be modifed to open in such a short distance but would be useless at slowing a person. Also I still think that having endless parachutes is unrealistic.

They each have different areas in which they are trained.

[Edit]

Wow, I can see this is turning into a hot button issue of sorts.

So Special Forces guys can be airborne qualified, but snipers can't? Hate to break out the **** arguement, but if that's what it takes...

Why would snipers need to be airbourne trained this is the Marines we are talking about not airbourne or the rangers or something like that.

There are certain exceptions, probably a designated marksman in an SF Airborne group.

the idea of making a delay of 3secs till open the parachute is VERY GOOD! it'd be useless for rooftop jumping

You mean like in Force Recon or something. I was talking regular vanilla grunt marine snipers.
As to the 3 second delay would be scary jumping out of any low flying thing.

Well considering the SPR is a special forces-only weapon... sounds relistic! *looks at the name of mod ;) *

Trogdor I think you completely using your argument...

In BF2 its referred to USMC, it doesn’t say a specific division, unit, etc. Would it be nice to have a shute for a sniper yes? I personally would love it, but is it realistic to do so while trying to make people not abuse it… probably not.
