MEC big sniper rifle

Post by GeZe »

The US team now has 2 sniper rifles now, small and big, for city fighting and open fighting respectivly. Now, in fairness MEC should get a big sniper rifle also, they already have the SVD for city combat.

Possibilities:
- VSSK Vychlop - It looks so bad ***!
- OSV-96
- KSVK

I agree. And I believe the SV-98 would be a perfect candidate. http://world.guns.ru/sniper/sn28-e.htm Its pretty much a cookie cutter of the M24 minus the 10 round magazine.

As I've said, not every weapon and vehicle is going to have an exact equivalent on each team. The MEC and PLA will have weapon or vehicle types/capabilities that the US and UK do not have. However, If our research turns up a hard-target interdiction/anti-materiel rifle that has been procured/produced by and is in service with the PLA or one of the states that might conceivably make up the MEC, we'll make an effort to include it.

Well, I know that Steyr has been banned by the US for selling weapons to Iran, and from what Ive found Steyr produces two Anti Materiel rifles. I've also seen pictures first hand of a knock off M82A1 that is being used by the Iranian military. And you musnt forget that any country that would be assosciated with the MEC (aside from Iran who would still be using plenty) would be using Soviet/Russian weapons without a doubt.

You guys obviously ain't that expert on ex-Soviet and Middle Eastern snipers ;)
IsraelNN.com wrote: Iran has begun to produce heavy machine-guns with armor-piercing bullets, Iranian state television reported today. Iranian Defence Minister Ali Shamkhani said the 12.7-millimeter gun has a range of 2.5 kilometers and is suitable for snipers.

"The United States had protested to a European country about selling the gun [to Iran], while we have already produced it," Shamkhani said. "Today the first consignment of the weapon was delivered. Now our snipers can target the enemy in their armored personnel carriers and concrete bunkers."

The gun weighs 35 pounds and can be mounted on a vehicle.

And as mentioned previously, Steyr sold ~800 .50hs rifles to Iran.

Also, the lack of accuracy of the SVD prompted requests from the Russian army for a dedicated sniper rifle. This is old news (1990s) so i'm suprised the DEVs weren't aware. This new weapon was the SVD-98.

We have been aware of the SV-98, but we as of yet have no plan to include it.

The SVD was a DMR but meany beleave it to be a sniper rifle now. I say return it to its intended role and get a proper sniper rifle for the MEC.

The SVD and its derivatives continue to be used as sniper weapons because "proper" snipers are still a rarity. Highly selected and trained military snipers, with advanced proficiency in fieldcraft/tactics (stalking, camouflage, target selection, etc.) and marksmanship are very rare outside of Western forces and the East European former Soviet bloc (including Russia). The PLA has a sniper program, also. Otherwise, the most common type of sniper is a trained soldier (designated marksman) or irregular with above average to competitive level marksmanship ability and decent fieldcraft and tactical skills. In Bosnia-Herzegovina a few of the reknowned snipers had been Olympic athletes.

It depends primarily on the military doctrine of the state/service/unit or other entity to which the sniper/DM belongs. In the old Soviet mechanized doctrine, which is what a lot of potential MEC states are still based on, snipers (designated marksmen) were mainly employed within the infantry units to directly support them rather than to gather intelligence and conduct direct action beyond the forward lines. A sniper with an SVD (or an AK when not operating as a sniper) was in each Motor Rifle platoon and each VDV (Airborne/Air-Assault) rifle squad.

Well the MEC supposidly uses a more modern and proffesional approche so its safe to re-asses were this weapon stands, its between the intended role or the role in army's whos country uses a mud pit as a system of government.

I think its safe for PR to strech its legs in the case of the MEC, after all, its a fake union of Islamic countrys so why not use imagination and the astute minds of the military assistants that PR is so lucky to have acquired.
