camouflage for an ambush

Post by StUfz »

Is it possible to include contrived camouflage for soldiers who want to set up an ambush?

The condition would be, that any movement will dissolve the camouflage.

I think this will include a bit more tactic movements and maneuvers.

Maybe it's possible in the BF2 engine.

Best Regards

Take, which is useful. Leave out, which is pointless.

I can just see it. Solder patrolling forward... feel suspicion... looks behind him... hmm... just a bush... keeps walking... turns again... 2 bushes?... keeps walking... 6 bushes?... keeps walking... turns around... hmmm nothing... turns back around 6 bushes encircling him... 'my draw distance sucks'.

Cloaking devices have been suggested before and I am 99% sure we won't be seeing any personal cloaking devices in PR.

Hes talking about a system that would make your payer invisible if you didnt move. Personally its a bad idea as people don't disappear. But I understand why you ask for this as grass and covers normally doesn't draw that far out.

The best idea it to use the game to your advantage. Here my list of ways to hide:
  1. If you can see totally thru a bush your in, your not hidden. Move back a few feet. Your poking out.
  2. Dont move, you would be amazed how many player will walk right by you.
  3. Dont hide next to 90 angles as you will stand out.
  4. Use corners but don't move right to the edge. Keep at least a guns distance away from the corner.
  5. Another "you think your hidden", when shooting out windows move back a bit from the window. Yes you lose your FOV but gain protection
  6. Never...NEVER sit at the top of a hill. Use a rock or bunch 70% of the way down
  7. If your hidden and can only see a small amount of your target, your doing it right.
  8. And for the love of god don't snipe from the edge of a building. You dont realize it but half of your body is hanging over the side.

i usually tell my sniper to move into a correct position if he's too close to the ledge :]
i'm a firm believer of bringing the camo suits for snipers back. you use them up close anyway when there are enemies walking över you, so the "it doesn't draw at a distance so we removed it" explanation is kind of silly.

mate, i can totally see where your coming from. but i can also see where the op is coming from too. the only reason i oppose his suggestion is because i think the weapons slots could be put to better use. but if it were up to me, i would give an insurgent IED kit and sniper the ability to use a weapon that shrouds them in the foliage that is near to them.
if your body's colors could change to the colors of the texture map your sitting on, your body may flicker, but you wont be as obvious as a 6 foot banana protruding from your ********.

It's easier to just hide and wait. And it's way cooler.

Ambushing is easy enough already on foresty maps.

Just lie still, spaced out, in a few bushes.

Personally if I find one guy alone hiding next to a tree I'm inclined to think it's just a lone nutter. 5 other guys blasting my balls open would certainly be a suprise.

hell when an sapper i hide in bushes as much as i can watching on stop that my IED is at.

Note landmines are great for making the enemy go where you want them to go.
If a bomb lands 20 feet from your position, then I'm coming around for another shot.
P.S. Sorry that I missed the first time.

I have a better idea, on maps with big, wide, leafy trees, put a little (for those that have seen The Lost World: Jurassic Park) high hide in them.

Meaning, its a latter, that leads into the tree and has a hidden platform inside. Great for ambushes.
