ranks / weapons?

Post by snowy »

I've been playing PRMM for a few days and i love it. I've noticed my rank go up a couple of times, but i was just wondering whether this actually served any actual purpose, other than to show that i've been playing for long. Also, is it poss to unlock more weapons? thanks

Unfortunately the unlock mode hasn't be able to be implemented into the game, modding issues don't know the details. So right now no addiotional weapons.

As for the ranking, ABR (Alternative Battlefield Ranking) tracks your stats on mods but only if your signed up, does it almost identically to vBF2 stat tracking. Though really PR's not about stat tracking.

Also expect to go up repeatedly when playing servers, due to your rank not being saved you will often see yourself promoted.

What about getting new weapons with the veteran and expert combat badges?
Just a nice idea in my opinion.
Never been to army, but don´t you get extra training in sniping etc when you are good at it?

It cant be done, simple as that, you cant get unlocks anymore in mods.

Why is that?

Wild_Wokman - it was to stop servers having all weapons unlocked. EA or Dice didn't like it for some reason...

That was because they wanted their players to 'work' for the unlocks.

Thats why if you played the Bf2 demo, one of the best servers was Noobs Field. This server had all the unlocks, but I visited them lately (my friends prefer the demo sometimes) and they removed the unlocks.

But I'm spreading word of Project Reality. It's getting a good fanbase here, among my friends. Still, I'd take PR over vBf2 anyday. Just crossing my fingers for the new version to have unlocks, and to be filled with new stuff.

Why is that? I have heard numerous times that unlocks on mods were locked out by Dice/EA

Whoever told you that was wrong or just not as good as the PR DEVs ;)

That's not true. I've run a variety of mod servers and except for ones that specifically do things to weapons, unlocks work just fine. Right now I am running PRMM, USI and OPK server in addition to my two ranked servers.

You're probably playing on an ABR enabled server and since you aren't using the ABR client, your rank isn't staying. As far as I know, PRMM itself has no ranks without ABR.

Are all PRMM servers 'ranked'? Can you play any of them without your score being recorded?

I think the whole idea of getting "rewarded" by rank and by recieving better weapons for playing a lot, is bad for the game.

My personal opinion is that the reality mod brings out the best in each player. It all comes down to individual skill, your ability to play in a team, and "know how" on a battlefield The moment how many hours you`ve logged and that you`ve "earned" a superior gun gives you an advantage over other players, I`m out!

I have a regular life to live, and I for one can`t sit for hours each day playing BF2 just so I can slaughter other players with better firepower/rank..... I like the idea of "each man being equal" and that it all comes down to individual skill.

Just my opinion....

OH cool, well since its posable then heres my opinions on unlocks.

there shouldnt be unlocks as a reward, but what about the posability of haveing unlocks aready there to choose at any time, a good implimentation of this would be the AT class where you could have one kit for AT and one kit for AA I think it could bring a lot of verity to the game another example would be the sniper, who could have a kit for long range snipeing and a kit for street snipeing etc.

You're right TJ in that the original ranks for vanilla were more about length of time played rather than skill. This is still true to a tiny extent in ABR on PRMM, but since the scoring has been vastly improved, it is now very easy to get 200 - 500 points each round (not that I have got 500 yet though!), meaning you can very easily move up rank by not playing much. In fact a skillfull player could probably play half the time of a no life noob and still have the same rank.

I also think it is much better to not have unlocks. Makes a much fairer playing field to all have the same weapons rather than competing against someone who spends all their waking hours playing just to get unlocks etc.

To answer AJ's question, no not all PRMM servers are ranked. The ones that are usually have the letters ABR in the server name. Or you can use the little ABR program which can be found on these forums I think and on the ABR website to find all ABR ranked PRMM servers.

I shudder at the thought of having unlocks. When in the history of modern warfare has any army said, "By the way, when you make it to corperal, choose another gun to use, cause the one you have sucks."

WTF?!

Having another gun to use for every class would make balancing them so much more difficult! If you must have unlocks for your ego, mabye the unlock would be the same gun, but with a small scope, or a silencer, or whatever. Just nothing too freaky. US troops using a british gun in battle seems wrong to me.

I think PRMM will only ever use unlocks to give the kits more versitile (such as the option for an assaultmen to have a SMAW or an M203 etc...) not to give the long playing players better weapons etc
