iron sights
we all know that most games have a little bit of zoom when you look down iron sights. project reality decided against this but I think it is necessary. Everyone knows that, in real life, when you pick up a gun with iron sights, and look down the sights, you do not get a more zoomed in view. The problem is that bf2 (and nearly all games) do not draw in high detail at 100-200m. the slight zoom attached to iron sights is there because it makes it equivalent to real life. looking down iron sights in PR at a target 150m away is like trying to do the same thing in real life, but having a -1.50 prescription in each eye, and not having your glasses on.

Would be helpful for deployable machine guns especially.

Pick up a rifle with an optic on it for long range fighting.

Re: iron sights
I think you missed the point of the thread, obviously we are aware of the fact there are guns with optics in the game.rangedReCon wrote:Pick up a rifle with an optic on it for long range fighting.

Re: iron sights
that's the problem. you do need a scope for long range fighting, but unfortunately, in pr firing while not looking down the scope is incredibly inaccurate so it is hard for a rifle with a scope to work in CQB. the iron sights are useful for CQB out to 50m, then it is too hard to see anything. at an NRA rifle match recently I got within the 9 ring 15/20 shots at 200m (the targets have the bullseye, then the 10 ring, then the 9 ring) with iron sights, because I could still see the target in full detail. the texture, the lighting, the poly count, the shaders, and the depth of field did not change over distance. It is real life!rangedReCon wrote:Pick up a rifle with an optic on it for long range fighting.

Re: iron sights
Don't support this idea.
IRL I can't zoom with my eyes. No matter how hard I try or what sort of ironsights I bring in front of my eyes.
All the best,
Viki
edit: There's a clear difference between concentrating/focusing your vision and "zooming in". There is no zoom.

Re: iron sights
I agree with alot here but also HAVE TO totally DISAGREE...
However I believe you don't really need to see what your shooting with the iron sights... I find when I shoot it's to kill, not to look at how close I can make my self fell to a target... that being said it seems that the pr team has decided that the iron sights are for close combat and anything else is under scoped, maybe have a middle ground, o wait there is... the dot scope... (dont know what itès actually called) but maybe instead of having the 2nd rifle man with out the scope have the red dot instead, and then leave the iron sights for the medics and rifle men specialists... (this is totally excluding the insurgents if thats what your talking about)
it's focusing your eyes so it fells like your more zoomed in ... tunnel vision.Viki - IRL I can't zoom with my eyes. No matter how hard I try or what sort of ironsights I bring in front of my eyes.

Re: iron sights
I support it entirely.
Why? When you look down the iron sights (well, at least I do this anyway) I bring the gun closer to my face. It's not really a "zoom" per se, it's just you bringing the weapon closer to your face.
When your firing from the hip, you have your rifle near your side. But when your looking down your sights, you bring it up to your face.
See where I'm getting at here? It's just a way to express it.. that's all.

Re: iron sights
If you play this mod properly there should be couple of your squadmates with scopes in your squad near you.... you don't have to kill everything personally (!). That's called teamwork.zephyr89s wrote:you do need a scope for long range fighting, but unfortunately, in pr firing while not looking down the scope is incredibly inaccurate so it is hard for a rifle with a scope to work in CQB. the iron sights are useful for CQB out to 50m, then it is too hard to see anything.
There are usually 3-5 guys with the scopes in the full squad (depends on the map).... enough scopes IMO.
I can hit a guy with ironsights far beyond 50m (200m?) so there is no need to add zoom to the ironsights.
RANGERS LEAD THE WAY!!!
Do not post stupid suggestions just because you had a bad round in PR

Re: iron sights
IMO the iron sights can hit something up to 300m away, provided that u can spot the target. any range beyond that most probably needs a scope.

Re: iron sights
If it's at a range that you can't hit, just suppress the enemy and let the optics riflemen in your squad take them out. People seem to care so much about hitting things they forget that it's a team game, and if you can't hit them accurately, use your ironsight rifle to supress them. Considering the maps are quite small I think having a firefight over 100m is quite reasonable, otherwise you could have two sides shooting each other from seperate objectives.

Re: iron sights
Even if you can only hit something one time in ten then you're probably gonna kill it in fewer than 5 seconds when you multiply that 1 in 10 to 6 in 60 and assume a rate of fire of 3 to 4 bullets per second. Even then the extra bullets most likely increase the likelihood of a hit beyond the 10% margin given their area of effect.
play with a good squad, it works.

Re: iron sights
There is such a thing as moving your face closer to the sights, as opposed to just holding the gun out infront of you.
I find that a -10 FOV does an okay job to reflect this.
