Real Chinese Weaponry

Post by Malik »

There's a lot of fuss going into making the USMC and UK more realistic. To counter this, many people are suggesting changes for the MEC army to make it more 'modern'. Well, I'm starting this topic to shed light on the current weapon situation with the PLA.

As this site shows, the current PLA army in PRMM is terribly outdated. The present day Chinese army hardly even uses the AK-47 (actually called the Type 56) any more.

Particular notice should be paid to the JS SMG found here, the Type 87 assault rifle found here and the actual Type 95 Assault Rifle found here. The PLA version of the AT-4 can also be found here.

I think it's worth taking a look at those and considering including them in the final PR 1.0. Currently the PLA are using outdating equipment and knock-off soviet weapons, unrealistic to say the least.

Yeah, the PLA designation of the AK-47 has a permanetly fixed foldable bayonet on the muzzle guard. The knife draw animation could be changed to him pulling up the rifle and flipping out the blade (like the GL with the leaf) and the stab animation could just be a thrust with the rifle. It'd be awesome. :D

The RPG sounds good....

Anti-personnel high-explosive (HE) round: This is specially designed for jungle and mountain warfare. The HE warhead contains 900 steel balls and 2,000 to 3,000 incendiary pellets that scatter over a 15m radius on detonation.

Bouncing anti-personnel round: This round works in a similar way to the bouncing anti-personnel fragmentation mines. On impact, it bounces off the ground to a chest to 2m height then airbursts over the target area. The airburst is much more effective than typical blast warheads especially toward entrenched troops. The airburst has a lethal radius of 18m.

Tandem-warhead anti-tank round: This has possibly entered service in the 1990s. The round is specially designed to penetrate the explosive reaction armour (ERA). Although it is not powerful to penetrate the armour of most modern main battle tanks, it is still effective in dealing with lighter targets such as infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) and armoured personnel carriers (APCs).

The Type 95 or Type 81 should deffinetly be in place of the current AK-47 wile the JS SMG should replace the ugly Type 85 pice of ****.

This has been discussed before, Malik. Do a topic search. Don't worry, we do plan on updating the PLA weapons.

For the next PRMM release? because im not particuarly bothered about any more USMC updates.

I do think that the MEC/PLA need to be the real focus for 0.4

DO NOT INSULT MY FAVORITE SMG!

But yes... it must be sacrificed to the cause.

If the Javelin was introduced for the AT class as a heavy unlockable, how about this bad boy for the PLA? http://www.sinodefence.com/army/crewserved/type98.asp
While most countries have phased out the recoilless gun weapons after the WWII, the PLA continued to field this type of weapon to provide a cheap means of direct fire support for its sheer number of infantry troops. By the early 1990s, all infantry units in the PLA were still equipped with the obsolete 82mm recoilless gun weapon at battalion and company level. The PLA began to replace these weapons by the more capable Type 98 (PF9 8) 120mm recoilless anti-tank rocket in the late 1990s, but the 82mm gun remains in service with some class-B and reserve units...

The Type 98 fires two types of 120mm calibre rocket-propelled projectiles: high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT) and high-explosive multipurpose.

The HEAT is armed with two tandem warheads and an electronic-controlled timer fuse. The round can pierce through MBT with reactive armour, and has an armour-piercing depth of about 800 mm (@90 degree) at a maximum firing range of 800m.

The multipurpose round has a high-explosive warhead with 120 steel balls and incendiary materials, which is capable of piercing armour of 400mm thick (@55 degree) and kill the crew inside, or producing fragments to kill personnel within 25m of the point of impact. The maximum firing range is 1,800~2,000m.

120mm HE and HEAT rounds from a shoulder fired weapon? Hells yes. Offset the primitive fire-control with multi-purpose use and we have a weapon that isn't a carbon-copy, but still kicks plenty of tail. Light AT could still use the Type-69 (RPG-7 clone) and carry an SMG or carbine.
A standard PLA infantry squad has two Type 69 RPG operators, each carrying one RPG launcher and three grenade rounds. There are also two assistant operators, each carrying three grenade rounds. A squad has a total of two launchers and 12 grenade rounds. In the light infantry troops deployed in the mountain and jungle regions in Southern China, the Type 69 RPG are equipped by the fire support platoon in the infantry company.
