I approve of this idea.

The FS Launcher is a great little thing imo, mainly because it makes it possible to release minor fixes without having to release a patch, just like Steam.
Not to mention you can(like you suggested) integrate other useful stuff like Mumble, WSF and tools to clear the cache etc etc.

I have no idea, but wasnt this hardcoded, i remember the devs said they made something like this, but for some reason it didnt really work. But that could perhaps be the splash screen.

To integrate mumble would be a great idea but don't know if it could be done without both permission from the developers and some kind of integration between a PR server and it's mumble equivalent.

AncientMan could probably do the real thing by the time any of us finish a draft.

An app to centralise all the external programs that PR players use is a good idea, a news screen, showing updates in the community mods etc is a really nice idea.

It could be done with flash but it wont be part of PR. And it will rely on all programs to be installed at the default places I guess.

Hey, what I might do is make a quick clickdummy sometime tonight in flash, show you my ideas about a potential launcher, probably easier for you to follow/understand :)

Here's what I'm thinking for a launcher. The graphics are fairly basic, was more focussed on the code :) . Also, the white bit down the bottom wouldn't be there in the real app.

PR Launcher
(if it doesn't load, just refresh)

Yes, it's not meant to work, it's a clickdummy, meant to show the design ;)

Anyway, as you can see, there's no "news". This is because I feel that there's no point having news in the launcher, when there is a news ticker ingame in the main menu (in the next version of PR anyway). People would spend more of their time in the main menu than the launcher (some might even just not use the launcher), so the news would get to more people in the ingame menu.

A tutorial page/video thing might be interesting, but, it's meant to be a launcher, just a relatively simple program for people to click on a button and the program gets them to where they want to be fast and easy. The wiki link might be easier with the videos linked there?

For things needing to be installed to the default place, that's not needed, that's what the registry is for.

Anywho, that's what I'm thinking. But you don't need to listen to me if you don't want to, I'm just another guy with another opinion :) .

Also, before you start getting in and coding this, just hold off for a bit, I want to talk to a couple of people first about it.

/sidenote to some replys in this thread, splash screen is in the next version ;)
