Add grunge effect to scopes

Post by KingKong.CCCP »

I must say I'm very pleased with the optical sights for armoured vehicles, they look very real, take a look here (the edge of the scope is turning greenish, very nice and real)

also, ingame binoculars scale and numbers look 100% real, as you can see for yourself

now, if we take a look at the rifle scope sight, it looks... kinda... not from the same game/mod... :(

Green edge effect and a bit of scratches and dirt on the ACOG would add a lot to the reality feeling when shooting somebody.

I think this is a very nice idea for the reality in this mod.
Lets hope, that this will get improved :D

I would disagree with green. I have looked through a few scopes (in airsoft, but they are mostly the same/real ones anyway). Most of the time I didn´t notice the dirt, but they are quite clean, I could agree with a little dirt on the screen, a bit like the mosin?

A bit of dirt, applied conservatively, wouldn't hurt I don't think, and supposing it doesn't impede gameplay would significantly add to immersion as well as realism.

The problem is they sighs are in 3D the ones on APCs ect are not they are simply textures.
So it cannot really be modeled like that i think.

I'm sure they could be, but its a lot of work for a fairly minor change. I agree KingKong that it would be nice to have a slightly better looking scope view. However I am not sure it is worth the large amount of time to re-export all the weapons just to change this detail. However, perhaps some new weapons could be made with this in mind....

For the record, that is a ridiculous third screeny :p Also for the second screenshot, please just give the link, as it's a .png :)

I agree, would be nice, but as said, quite low priority IMO, although immersion would be good.

Also is there any way of changing the scope on acogs so its more 3d like the scope from far cry 2 or like the current aimpoints but closer.

When you're scoped in, you really don't notice dirt in real life.

The WWIIOL forum has had huge threads debating this, with people taking pictures of them loading dirt onto the scopes of the rifles and showing how it isn't seen through the scope image.

I agree with the scope thingy, and as far as teh Far Cry 2 visible scope thing, BF2 engine can only zoom the entire screen, not parts of it, but in that picture it's the same way so it's possible.

I'd rather the actual scope model was in front of you like the aimpoint, and the surrounding was completely utterly blurred out or somethin (thats been suggested elsewherE)

Yeah, that would be great and while scoped you could still keep an eye for other enemies.

This is so right, same as the iron sights. In real life is the iron sight much smaller then ingame.

a little grunge would definitly be cool, i prefer alice in chains. but soundgarden would be sweet. no nirvana though its a little too poppy for me.

Sadly, this is not possible in the engine, IIRC.
