Getting CAS in now-PR:
- A-10 flies around in a holding pattern until a squad leader says there is a target that needs bombing
- Squad leader lases the target and gives coordinates to the A-10 pilot. Possibly even through the commander using markers.
- A-10 flies down to bombing alittude and drops the bomb.
- Squad leader confirms the hit or says it is a miss.
As you can see, proper communication and a willingness to work together with other people was necessary in order to be effective. Teamwork.
Getting CAS in the Combined Arms mod.
- You don't because the A-10 was lonewolfing and annihilating everything on the map before they even had a chance to do anything.
My opinion is this: While the combined-arms mod may be more realistic, PR certainly isn't on the proper scale for realism. In real life, the A-10 could be patrolling an area of 160 squad kilometers, and armor could be separated and hidden, maybe two tanks in 16 squad kilometers. In Kashan, there are usually a dozen tanks in a 16 squad kilometer zone. Something such as the radar function, while realistic and in use in real life, is overpowering because of the scale. In real life, the infantry would relay the approximate location to the A-10 before it comes in. In Kashan, the entire map is the approximate location.
The mod may be more realistic, but it doesn't provide the teamwork-oriented atmosphere that makes me love PR. A lot of work has obviously gone into CAS's Combined Arms mod, but it just isn't my flavor.
