No helmet bug

Post by NoxNoctum »

Alright I'm not sure this is actually a bug, but maybe something to do with my graphics setting. I have everything at medium, no AA, and maximum view distance scale.

The problem is this, at anything more than about 100 feet, uniforms "simplify" where the helmet dissapears as well as many identifying features which makes it VERY hard to ID tangos/friendlies, other than by tracer fire or referring to the map. It's not AS big a deal on say... insurgency maps, but on maps with US vs PRC, it's VERY hard to tell the difference (they already look pretty similar as it is, but without helmets, it's virtually impossible to tell).

Very irritating. Is it a bug or what do I need to change in my graphics settings?

Isnt really a big its just the way the engine works. Thats also why ghilly suits are removed. They where pointless for snipers.

So this would happen even if I turned graphics to max?

That really... sucks...

I asked around with other people I was playing with and they said they didn't have that problem.

If i'm not wrong this happens to everyone, i think it has something to do with the bf2 engine. However, regarding the identify friendlies and enemies part, when you play PR or even BF2 long enough, you will notice that the simplified image actually differ between the two factions (e.g. from far, a US soldier will look different from a MEC soldier. but this is not proven otherwise, only my own opinion after a couple of years on BF2 and PR.) using the minimap to confirm between friend or foe would be a better option, otherwise, just leave that poor guy alone. Unless of course you're pretty sure thats an enemy, or else don't shoot!

i only needed a week before i had an average tk rate of zero. the other tks i make are accidental, and accidents happen rarely.

just while playing, if you're unsure, take up your map and double check while remembering the colours of the "ULLF"(unidentified land-based life form)
if its a hostile, and you remember the colour pattern, the chance of seeing it again, and it being a friendlt is pretty slim.

the patterns are quite distinct.

So this is just an engine issue? EVERYONE gets it?

That sucks.

It's not just identifying problems, it's just so much less cool shooting at bald guys :p .

Not a bug, you will get used to it. The only faction that are kinda hard to tell the difference from are the Chechen's and Russians.
