Heli Pilot - Examination
Okey, i came on this. I don't know if it is hardcoded, but with this suggestion, i'm trying to keep the system outside BF so much as possible.
I'm having this idea from a flight simulator online network (IVAO - International Virtual Aviation Organisation) where people get examined before they can, for example, be air traffic controllers in larger areas.
Right. Everyone knows how little you actually trust the heli pilot you are flying with. You don't know how many hours of flight time he has, and you don't know if he actually can fly at all.
Here is my suggestion: There is examiners (i'm sure there is volunteers). Via an extern webpage, you request examination for heli pilot. When a examiner have contacted you, you decide a date and time and then meet, either on a training server, or in a pub game with helicopters. While the one being examined is flying, the examiner is sitting next to him and evaluating how good he/she is flying.
After the examination, they do a debrief, and via a point system (starting at 100, when the pilot is doing mistakes like dropping wrong or well, crashing, the points go down) the examiner evaluates if the examined passed or didn't passed.
If the examined got passed, the examiner put the passed player on a list (on webpage).
HARDCODED WARNING..
The servers decide if they want to apply this or not, so it's a choose. If they want, they just put a script on their server which is downloading the list of the one's who is passed.
When a player is entering a heli, or taking the pilot kit, the server is scanning the list. If that player isn't on the list, then it either: Gives a warning text message about this player / The player get kicked.
So, if i want to examine, I:
1. I go into the special webpage and request examination
2. I get contacted by a examiner and we decide time and date
3. We are flying a round
4. The examiner evaluate
5. I passed, so on the servers who has this script, i'm now able to fly
Sounds overkill maybe, but just think how it should be on muttrah and every other heli only map! And, as said: This method is tested, it do works.. also, it will scare the vanillas!
Btw, if this works, why not use it with jets too?
(don't say this is suggested..)

It should be done for infantry too.
"Today's forecast calls for 30mm HE rain with a slight chance of hellfires"
"oh, they're fire and forget all right...they're fired then they forget where the target is"

Yeh, why not.. btw, if this is hardcoded, there is another way. Before even being able to play, you must fulfil a complete training course (including jet, heli, inf, tank). When you are examined on everything, you can enter the server. If you aren't you can't. It's just like ranking system on vanilla bf2 (like, if you are lower than officer, you can't join this server).

So, its kinda like American army game when you pass several training before being able to going on the battlefield.
I'm sure its almost impossible to done and should be really annoying.

Nonono, I can't fly. I know this. I don't WANT to fly. I definitely don't want to have to do a training course in flying just to join a server, where I have no intention of doing so.Remoted-Bomb wrote:Yeh, why not.. btw, if this is hardcoded, there is another way. Well, that was only my alternative which i didn't laid so much thinking of. Focus on the first one instead.Harrod200 wrote:Nonono, I can't fly. I know this. I don't WANT to fly. Forced training/certification etc has been suggested before.

Re: Heli Pilot - Examination
Even with example of how to do it?
Since you're so much outside the battlefield folder itself in this idea, i think it would be possible, actually.
If it doesn't work, you can just have this page as reference. If you are flying with a pilot, you can go into the site and check how good he is. Thats simplier and thats not hardcoded. But i would actually like to see the server script more..

I doubt its been suggested in those exact words, but really I don't think any admin is gonna sit around all day and examine peoples flying considering hundreds even thousands of different people can join a server in a day. Examining each and every persons flying would take weeks or months. What you are suggesting would be to much of a hassle for the server admins so I doubt anyone would take this idea on unless you were to try it your self and see how it turned out.
If you are that tired of noobs flying just play in servers that have admins active.

A server..? This is a script to use by all servers = one examination = all serversnick20404 wrote:I doubt its been suggested in those exact words, but really I don't think any admin is gonna sit around all day and examine peoples flying considering hundreds even thousands of different people can join a server in a day. First.. not everyone likes flying helicopters. I'ts maximum of 100 players, i think. At the first, it maybe will be a little tuff. But there will be a huge difference. Those examining don't need to be admins or something, they just need to prove that they know. I have some knowledge of HTML, CSS & ASP so i can create, at least the webpage (would need help with program codes (ASP&PHP)).
Admins are great, but when a person already have crashed the huey full of persons, it's already too late.
EDIT: Another idea. Same concept, but instead of having examiner, you can give reputation for those pilots you thought flied good. When a pilot is entering the seat, the server will write the rep points. But, that requires the public.

The idea of having a rating system of sorts is new but the exam is very very resuggested. I'd be happy to see a ranking system as a server side option though.

Re: Heli Pilot - Examination
Well i can fly great, but only on training servers, i'm used to watching people grabbing choppers and crashing within seconds after take off. I hate it when i take a chopper, flys a squad into combat, evades a few AA missiles and when i finally crash after running out of flares, people who crashed their choppers previously started nagging at me for being a noob for wasting their choppers. Since those incidents i only fly choppers in normal servers when the server have excess choppers. Maybe its just me, but thats what happened to me when i play in public servers. Another reason will be random lag spikes since the place i live is pretty far away from where the populated servers are located, just being considerate not to lose valuable assets
So if something like this can be possible, i think its a great idea except for the trouble one have to go through, but hey, its another anti-smacktards countermeasure.

EDIT: Remoted-Bomb, i can see those negative ratings i will have due to lag spikes

When you see a house land on somebody and they're still kicking, you know something is wrong

Limiting access to certain kits depending on whether or not you have passed a course has been suggested many times before, most often specifically for the Pilot Kit.
