I would like to start a thread in which we discuss the importance to squad to squad communication, aswell as that two squads should stay togheter, and just general AAS math.

Communication

Ok, first of, i think that all servers that are out there, should have a TS server(if they dont have one) and release the IP / PW of that server, even if its private. To encourage Teamplay, and cooperation.

Second, i think all players of PR should install and configure Mumble, and should be on that, if TS is to much for you.

SL should choose either TS or Mumble or both (Some people even stay on Mumble, TS and Vent).

Squad coordination

Squad coordination in PR is really important, i mean PR really did revelutionise the BF2 "agenda" of only lonewolfers, or retarded squads, and turned them into smart squads, with fireteams etc. But now, the time of larger squads has arrived, the need for bigger units are requierd, and they occure more often. I think we should all embrace aswell as act upon it as an obligation to install these communication programs to increase the joy of this game, not only for ourselfs, but for the entire team.

If you are a squadleader you should feel obliged to contact other squads of your team, and organize yourself.

Who hasnt seen squads, wander on their own? Well i say NO MORE! I want to be able to join a server, and instantly when i wish, talk to other squads.

APCs are supposed to stick togheter with infantry, so instead of teamchat, use TS or mumble. Problem solved. Same with 2 squads moving togheter, or stuff like that.

But from now on, i think we should all agree, that we will never attack an objective alone as a squad. No more squadlonewolfing :P

AAS


Ive played a good deal of AAS rounds, and nothing makes me cry more than squads, of tank on kashan, or squads of infantry or snipers on muttrah, going in to the uncaps of the map, or just into nowhere, doing no good. I mean you can say, its a strategic decision to move there, and split and conquer... BUT NO! thats just rubbish, idiocracy..

If you want to help your team, stick with your team, and solve their problems with them. Infantry in Kashan loves to hear their own tanks outside the bunker complex blasting enemy infantry to smitherins, and covering them from enemy tanks. Instead of going away into X-ray 9 or something... You all get the point.

Teams are made to work togheter, otherwise you wouldnt be a team, you would be 2 different enteties fighting towards a common objective without helping eachother, and i have never read anything like that in any PR manual. We are a team, and without your team you are nothing, if you are split up from your team you must regroup with them.

This is why communication is key. If i cant hear what the other squads are doing, and i cant see them doing anything about a problem, like an enemy tank or something, i will try to solve that problem on my own.

And i firmly belive, that communication, on mumble or TS, will drasticly increase the teamplay, and satisfaction from this game. Noone will ever go wanting, noone will be frustrated at squads going on their own, cause we can communicate.


Thats all i have to say.

Little side note, if you see a squads going on their own, not on mumble or TS, then if the squads is at 5/6, join them and talk to them... thats what i do sometimes, makes alot more difference than just speaking among yourselfs... "ah that squads sucks"

Agreed, there are moments indeed when the puzzle just seems complete and everything runs like a well-oiled motor, and it's indeed time for bigger squad teamwork. Mumble seems to be a good idea.


Hearing friendly armour when my squad is in a tricky position brings a tear of joy in my eye *sniff*, same goes for friendly air support.

Yeap. I guess if the dev's manage to integrate mumble this will be solved. In the mean time or if not, than its pretty much how you typed it out wicca.

[R-GOD]TwistedHelix is working on "Mumble (PR Edition)" to solve a lot of comm problems we see today. If things work out as planned,

1. you'll have an option to install it with future updates (option given at the end of the PR installation/patch)

2. All you'll have to do is run the audio wizard and set your key bindings. (distance settings, link-to-game, etc will all be done for you and hardcoded to prevent cheating).

The template will be,

player to player direct talking - Mumble (3D positional)
SL to SL radio - Mumble (force center)
Inner-squad radio - BF2 VoIP

i agree. but the problem is see when i tested mumble, there must be rules for talking...

when 32 guys yelling arround, you cant get focused on what you have to do, dont hear impacts and so on.

thats why i quit with mumble. we in our clan stay in different ts channels for every sq. and the leaders can talk to each other.

so there isnt so much traffic on your ears...

but thats only my 2 cent

as long as nobody is using force centre mummble is quiet except for people around you!

Had great fun on igi the other night using mumble when there was 36 people on mumble! The insurgant rounds were amazing!

But you have to go sure, that nobody is using the normal Mumble-Version and instead the PR one.

We're working on having it so that only people using the PR edition can connect to the server.

Of course! A commander has (should have) a good idea of the entire situation. Where is squad 1 - 9, etc. A squad leader is way too busy staying alive and completing his own objective. A commander's job is to try to keep all squads alive, while working on his masterplan.

Mumble is very usefull for directing APC fire of a blue apc or directing a chopper pilot. Or any other blue that is nearby. Instead of not taking the time to type ('cause your busy staying alive) you can just "shout out" where the enemy is and he will hopefull react to it as well.

Im a big fan of using it in this way instead of using it like a commander tool. Friday evening I was SL'ing Americans on one of the final cache positions and we got fire from a rooftop. Luckily a striker was nearby with a mumbler in it. So I directed for on the rooftop using mumble and that got us in the city very quickly :)

Yes. A good commander changes the tide of a battle more than an ace A10 pilot, or mumbling squad leaders. Last night on TnT with Cunningham has CO we did very well against a pretty tough chinese team. The problem currently is that so few people, A. want to command and, B. do it well.

I have implemented mumble but have not been able to use it to its full potential yet. Bundling it in the PR download would be fantastic since many more players would use it.

sounds great !! ive been waiting for this to happen. but i noticed slight problem , you said "option" given.... force it ! :p
