New MEC Title
I was thinking about renaming the MEC. The reason for this is that Middle-Eastern Coalition sounds more like just a simple military joint effort from the Middle-East nations. Some names I was thinking on below.
- The Middle-East Alliance (MEA)
- The Middle-East Republics (MER)
- The Middle-East Union (MEU)
- The Middle-East Kingdom (MEK)
- The Middle-East Federation (MEF)
- The Royal Middle-East Empire (RMEE))
Or, we could go for some real technical names.
- The United Republics of the Middle-East (URME)
- The Principality of the Middle-East (PME)
I was thinking of names such as that. Not exactly of course, just some names that come of the top of my head. What do you guys think?

personally I don't like the fictional MEC thingy... I'd much prefer:
- Iraq
- Iran
- Afghani Rebels
sorta thing, but that gets sensitive politically.
Even if we just added completely identical duplicate armies, but changed the skins and the flags it would be, for me, more immersive than a fictional MEC faction.

Interesting, i like the idea that the MEC have a more player based name.
Ideas:
Islamic Peoples Group (IPG)
United Entity's of Islam (UEI)
Less typical names:
Gulf Union (GU)
Arab Entity's (AE)
King Saladin Union (KSU)
Saladin Influenced States (SIS)
United Mujahideen People (UMP)

Yeah, it's alright to highlight the Chinese as an enemy of Britain and America, but when Iraq gets involved everyone gets worried that they'll offend people. Seriously, the whole game is fictional, nobody would be offended that the MEC are renamed to Iraq. Currently there is no backstory to BF2, we don't know how or why these nations ended up fighting, so by changing the name to Iraq or whatever, what difference does it make? There's way to much political correctness these days.

That wouldn't very much explain how they would aquire advance military equipment and such. Iraq as a soveirgn nation currently is western influenced today (the whole change of government thing). They're in the process of restructuring their government and maintaining it.
I'm willing to except this MEC faction. For one, I think the MEC conflict must take place several years (Perhaps as far as a decade). Theres no way the MEC could just instantly show up with the amount of resources BF2 portrays them with. I would happen to think, that perhaps western aggression continues around the middle-east due to dwindling oil supplies. Middle-East nations start to make treaties, alliances and such to present a stronger and much more challenge to western aggression not just military wise, but industrial, economics etc. Soon, the middle-east slowly begins to unite into a single and powerful soverign nation.
Thats just my take on it, I could go on for hours on theories and such about the MEC.

Who would want to play as the taliban for example killing US troops? when thats happening in real life at the same time also it gives them groups more recognition.
I'm not saying that because im being politically correct or over sensitive im saying this because i _hate_ them so much i would not even play as them for one minute tho i would have to..
Where as i doubt anyone would have problems playing with what egg suggested.
- Iraq
- Iran
- Afghani Rebels
Thats my two cents.

Yes, they do. Bigtime. Despite there being a Shia majority in both Iraq and Iran, they are still predominantly different ethnic groups and cultures (Iraqi Arabs vs. Iranian Persians). Not to mention the fact that there was an extremely brutal 10 year war between them. How that will change in the future remains to be seen, but as long as Iran's regime remains, I believe it will continue to act like the (very) sandy **** it has been for the last 27 years.Eden wrote:Well first off who said anything about the taliban? second dont Iraq and Iran hate each other.

First off, this mod loses alot of appeal if it ends up beeing a U.S v.s Insurgents or some third-world country modification. The conflict in general is purely fictional really. I think the best the team can do is to make it as believable as possible. I'd start by detailing some universal information. Such the form of government that controls the MEC, the leaders (Fictional leaders would be best) behind the MEC etc. Create fictional units within their ranks (The MEC Scorpian Division or something) stuff like that can go a long way for future references so when people are curious about how the MEC fits into a reality mod.
Hell, even OFP is somewhat unreal in terms of its conflict. The Cold War never broke down to a war, so anyone can argue that the game isn't immersive enough or that reality breaks down because of it. But hell, the majority of you guys probably have enjoyed and still do enjoy OFP. Point is, despite the the fact the MEC is in fact unrealistic, they make for a better game overall. The MEC would probably benefit the mod more over some western beatdown on some third-world nation. Thats my view on that.
Can we get some actual discussion on the name for the MEC. I mean, do you guys think its a good idea to change the name or what?

Fullforce is probably right here. It would be for the best to avoid associating names of specific religous groups with factions. There are probably people who play BF2 that are muslim and whatnot.'[R-PUB wrote:Fullforce']Fail. I agree with the "Iraq/Iran/whatever" ideas, but to typify it by its religion is one step too far.
"Look at me, i'm shooting muslims" - NOT good in a game, as would be any religion.

Why does everyone always talk about insurgents in these types of topics? To give the MEC a realistic name does not mean it has to suddenly be realistic in nature. If we're dealing with an alternative future, why can't we have an alternative past? Let's imagine a past without Saddam Hussein where the Middle Eastern world develops as one, unhindered by civil war. One day the US attacks because they're unhappy with the military growth in that country, and the PLA comes to their assistance, as it would seem these two nations have relations with one another. Suddenly a whole war breaks out and the UK comes to the aid of the US helping lead the strikes on the Asian continent. The rest of Europe forms an army defending its borders while the UK and USMC lead assaults on the main parts of Asia.
