Squad Leader waiting
Argghhhhh, I'm too noob to squad lead, but today I found my self with no option other than to start my own squad. It was start of game and there was three squads all full. I sat and waited hoping for someone to start another, but they didn't. So I starts one and within two seconds it was full.
What made it worse was that the map was a small intense one which didn't show any mercy.
Since playing this game, I found that SL role is undesired by many.

Re: Squad Leader waiting
I find squadleading quite ejoyable actually.
I like creating taktics and when i get squadmembers that actually works with and for the team i really enjoy this game
Though i seldon squadlead on a map that i am not very familiar with,it will drag the team down to not have a functioning squad!
My advise to you is to play a map that you know the in and outs of and try squadleading in small portions and thus gaining valuable experince for future squadleading

Re: Squad Leader waiting
Recently, either yesterday or the day before yesterday, my I'm quite forgetful, I had our squad leader leave and rejoin the squad. Since I had the most teamwork points of all squad members, the game chose me to lead.
Instead of ditching the good squad, I boldly clicked on the Officer kit at the spawn screen and took up the job. The squad were good about me not having a functional microphone, and we did quite well. We kept the Challenger II tank alive for one hour and thirty minutes, the duration of the round.
Can't wait for my mic to start working so I can provide more for the team, and heighten the Project Reality experience.

Yep, most people just like to shoot shoot shoot. Hell even I will give up Sl to a person that can do it better. Think of it this wayRapid12 wrote:Since playing this game, I found that SL role is undesired by many.

I like to be a squadleader from time to time, but I also like to just take commands.

Re: Squad Leader waiting
On a few maps I love being squad leader, its all about if you know the map well enough or not. If you can get a good squad who doesn't have some random lone wolfs running around 2k away from the squad, and can keep them in a group for the main part, I consider that to be a good game.

Re: Squad Leader waiting
I don't mind squad leading, but there's two sets of scenarios I commonly see.
I get in a game at the start of the round
a) A round starts, I'm there for it. Someone makes a squad, and I am one of the lucky few who get in.
b) Three squads are filled, three squads have two players each in them (these numbers are just picked out of a hat, but the 2man squads are things like infantry most of the time.)
c) All squads are filled, and I must start my own. Once again, I don't mind leading... But being forced to every round is a bit... Monotonous.
I join a round late

c) All squads are filled, and I must start my own.

I don't mind being SL, just I think WAY to much and I like shooting stuff like the rest of us, so I usually go in first and die. Also if i ever build a FB I usually want to build up defenses too , which hinders the squad. For the most part its alright, I don't mind the gear either

I just hate taking orders that i think are bad so i usually lead.
Not saying my orders are perfect but that i just can't stand incompetent SL:s who are not willing to lead.

Re: Squad Leader waiting
The main problem I have with squad-leading is everyone else has their idea of what the squad should be doing. My general tactics is sprint towards the objective boldly, rather than jumping at shadows every step of the way like a paranoic; which is great for making up distance quick, reconning the area, and punishing undefended caches / flags - it keeps the enemy totally off-balance too. The downside is that these are high-risk manoevres, and people tend not to have any stomach for stuff unless you're BSing them with jargon or dominating them like a tinpot dictator. It also relies on your squad being skilled enough to go toe-to-toe with the enemy like I generally can on my own. This is an epic fail if you've got a squad of people who can't shoot straight.

It also makes you an easy target. You have to have a balance of cover and movement to successfully hit a flag (success meaning with the smallest amount of friendly casualties possible)

Happened again this morning on Mutrha City, thankfully a guy from FCUK stood in and took charge, he even showed me the ropes on a few things. Well done Ace. Does anyone know where I can find their clan site?

Re: Squad Leader waiting
Most of the time I can't deal with being a grunt with the substandard leading that goes on for the most part. Squads with no direction, no kit allocations, a SL without an officer kit, tactically disadvantageous planning [let's make a firebase in the middle of sunset city hmmmmmmmm?] and the like bring me to the brink of rage... so I pretty much always end up creating my own squad because even though I know I'm not awesome at the job, I'm confident that I understand the gameplay dynamics of PR and that my squad will at least be a positive influence on the team's performance.

I love being a grunt in a functioning squad. Most of the time I find myself squad leading. Wish more people were decisive squad leaders.
That and, get your mic fixed! Its so frustrating to have to ask the SL again and again what he wants.

Damn straight, I hate that every single SL keeps asking me questions, and all I hear is "mumblemumblemumblemumble Ace?!? mumblemumblemumble Ace?!?" and then finally a squad-mate with a decent setup "Ace, can you hear the squadleader?" - "assuming the SL's a sheep bleating down a yoghurt-pot-with-string, yah"PFunk wrote: That and, get your mic fixed! Beats the hell out of building one in the middle of nowhere so that the front-lines are starved of reinforcements who are busy trekking from Outer Mongolia or wherever someone decided to put one up...let's make a firebase in the middle of sunset city hmmmmmmmm?

except that the FOB gets disabled when too many enemies get near it. the FOB shouldnt be in the middle of nowhere, but it should certainly NOT be on the front line. FOBs like that last a few minutes max.Ace42 wrote:Beats the hell out of building one in the middle of nowhere so that the front-lines are starved of reinforcements who are busy trekking from Outer Mongolia or wherever someone decided to put one up...
i love being a grunt in a good SLs squad, but i end up having to lead most rounds myself because i cant stand being in a squad without purpose. i have the most fun when i can play with a few StrkTm guys and we alternate lead.
i do love leading squads, though.

Re: Squad Leader waiting
A few mins of having a buttload of troops on the front line beats the hell out of a handful of troops being on the frontline for a few minutes in dribs and drabs. Even if only one squad gets to respawn on the firebase, that's like having a free extra 5 men on the frontline. Everything else being even, that is a MASSIVE advantage to the team, making it much more likely they'll secure the area, thus allowing everyone else to spawn, the firebase to come back online, and the city to be secured. Within 5 or 6 mins of me ALONE defending that firebase, I can take out an enemy squad even if I only get the jump on ONE of them at a time.Threedroogs wrote:except that the FOB gets disabled when too many enemies get near it. the FOB shouldnt be in the middle of nowhere, but it should certainly NOT be on the front line.
