Re: [Vehicle] Fuchs 1A8 [WIP]
But its still okay if i model in 2012. And i mean only the modelling part. Then i got to v9 and do the uvs and smoothing groups. After that baking. All that except the modelling part. Is that okay?

Your still better off doing the modelling part too in Max9, then you can smooth as you go which is far more effective and quicker than smoothing after, which then you can easily miss stuff.

Re: [Vehicle] Fuchs 1A8 [WIP]
Its 3d week again!
I asked few questions at the work. Yeah, normals and sm are more complicated than i expected. I though i knew a lot of them but nope.
I really should have done those simple box normal tests myself. Still not sure if I have ever done normals the right way or not
Yeah, but ill prob send some progress pics when I have advanced more .Today I just modelled small parts. Pretty boring

Re: [Vehicle] Fuchs 1A8 [WIP]
Last 3d week had too much drinking
But this week is 3d party time!
But whoah, there is so much more to learn from normal baking. For so long i though i knew how to do it, but no o_0 I have been such an amateur.
Start of the week I tried to find as much as many tutorials about baking i could find. After finding them I studied them. Im so glad i found just the ones that gave me the answers what I were looking for.
Im going to bake the sheit out of the apc
and its going to be gooooood
but yeah, its much better to make uv and sm at the v9 unless the tex tools work in v9

Make sure you have backups of your model, in case something happens to your harddrive or stuff

This sounds little bit like a commercial, but it isnt
Yeah, there some tutorials which are good, but not perfect. But they fitted my needs perfectly. They dont go so deep and left me sometimes to want to know more deeply.
How to Bake a Flawless Normal Map in 3ds Max
this one is free and he talks good stuff. Pretty much what rhino says too

I would strongly advise giving these threads a good read through.
You're making me hard. Making sense of hard edges, uvs, normal maps and vertex counts - Polycount Forum
Understanding averaged normals and ray projection/Who put waviness in my normal map? - Polycount Forum

Re: [Vehicle] Fuchs 1A8 [WIP]
This is actually becoming my blog for making this
And its a good thing cuz I have to know how I spend my time when makign this.
Last week I was very busy at work. Every day at work and the whole weekend too. I was at the Finnish motorcycle convention promoting trials evolution. So I was pretty exhausted after that. Instead of making this week 2d art ill focus on the apc.
Main proplem with my free time is lack of it
I Only have 4 hours every evening to do my stuff including cleaning, eating etc. And after that I try to do this apc

So slow progress even after I abandoned my "2d" weeks. I really have to hurry more to get this finished in few moths
Maaan, theres so much work with the low poly. Hipoly came so quickly
You really dont have to think anything when that is done.
Ill show better pictures of the wire version when all parts have been done. They need more optimization.

So many small parts... But pretty good progress still. Ill post tonight first version of the low poly. At the moment its about 20k which is probably way too much. What was the tri limit for the apc?

Yeah, around 10k is pretty much the limit, anything more is pushing it I think...
