But this time i let someone else speak for me.
@CAS do you recognize these quotes? Yes they are all yours.
From this post:
combinedarms.myfreeforum.org :: [Countermeasures] Lower flare ROF?
But as you can see the majority of your community reacts and wants unlimited flares/sec
You want to give them a challenge but they want X-Wings.
Anyway ... good luck tomorrow man![]()
From Ideas/Complaints:The only rule here is to back up what your are saying. If you want to argue about why the Javelin needs a 10 second lock time rather than a 7 second one, you better be packing some info or you won't get anywhere fast.
I should probably put that disclaimer in all the sections as well, although I doubt it would do any good. So the discrepancy between my decision and the poll is mostly because I only look at:As with the other sections, BACK UP WHAT YOU ARE SAYING. I could ask for a gun that shoots bread because I think it will add a whole new dimension to the game, but I haven't explained why.
(numbers of posts containing evidence) / (number of votes for X subject)
= My willingness to do X
Most people don't understand BF2s code as well as me, so I have to explain very carefully what the problems are so people can make informed decisions. This is an example of me not explaining very well.
A brief explanation of the countermeasures situation:
AIM-120 PK IRL: About 90% (an AIM-120B missed once in Bosnia, ours are the improved D models). And flares shouldn't even effect it. So I treat flares as "chaff", which has even more limited effect.
AIM-120 PK CA: About 25% (Sometimes hits when you do a snap shot or they suck).
Problem: Countermeasures have same signature as AIM-120.
Solution: Shorten lifetime of Heat Objects on flares (while leaving the flares effect) to a length that allows the AIM-120 to hit around 90% of the time when fired from Pitbull range (3km).
So Nemus I think you are misunderstanding, and then quoting me out of context. If you showed my whole post you'd see that I included a video of an AIM-9x doing 90 degree turns while ignoring at least 100 flares, then destroy the target.
What people probably misunderstood was that flares ingame have the same signature as the aircraft, so the probability of a hit (assuming flares are inside the missiles tracking angle) is equal to (cos(degrees to heat object)xdistance / (no. of flares)). Basically the missiles will treat all heat objects equally.
People probably watched that vid and thought "hey that missile flew through 100 flares, so can ours". So this really was a case of poor communication on my part. Had I explained that 100 real life flares has about the same effectiveness as one of ours, then I think it may have been received differently; they saw the video, saw the plane dispense 100 flares, then saw the missile hit it. Logically, our flares should dispense at the same rate.
However, we are now going to be dispensing flares faster than I thought we could because we have found a way to give flares a more accurate heat signature. In hindsight the poll was unnecessary.
If I am so interested in making the game "harder" why am I adding BVR missiles, the Javelin, GBUs, and Homing tank shells? Compare the changes I've made side by side and say that I am doing either. It doesn't make sense. The only logical conclusion is that I am following another pattern. That pattern is: Make things how they are. Sure my opinion will differ from others, and that is what the forum is for.
