Sniper Kit Discussion - Removal?

Personally, I have no problem with snipers. I think that as this mod has evolved over time, people have truly forgotten how important killing is. Sure the main objective is always "take the flag" "destroy the weapon cache" or "set up FOBs" etc. But there have been countless times on maps like Operation Archer where I've seen one sniper - easily out of the range of the scoped rifles most squad members carry - take down 1-3 members in a squad. Think about how significant that really is. What if one of those victims was the SL? Or maybe the medic? Then someone goes to pick up the medic kit and he gets sniped. The squad is now disorganized and in panic - that squad is no longer effective. Who knows what that squad could have done if there were no snipers, maybe they could have set up an FOB, or destroyed a vital weapons cache. This game would simply be unrealistic if snipers were removed.

Actually I don't snipe. And when I do work in a sniper squad on the occasion, its with my friend ONLY, we both use skype, and hes the shooter while I'm the spotter.

The thing we can all agree on is that the sniper kit can be used correctly and be benefitial to teamplay. It has the potential.

The sad fact is that the majority of people who grab the kit simply are not teamplayers and do not use it correctly. These players likely do not frequent these forums or do not care when other players rant about them.

IMO, the benefits of having the sniper kit ingame for the sake of a few players who use it correctly do not outweigh the negatives caused by the vast majority of the kit's users. The sniper kit should removed or reduced in number from 2 to 1.

The only times I've ever used a sniper kit properly was two times. Once in a Russ vs Chechen map, where l was damn near useless, and another time in Muttrah as a spotter, which could've been achieved by grabbing an officer kit.

Works but it's incredibly hard to give good recon on some maps, like Muttrah.

High mountains doesn't mean you have a birds eye view of the situation.

God I wish there was a single attack LB to do a quick run around the map to see where people are and get back to base to give firemissions and recon.

There, now the sniper is useless.

The LB gives a lase, gets the hell out of there (probably not), and then right as they leave the Cobra locks up and kills the *******.

no, you have effective view of the situation. You are a sniper covering a sector of the battlefield, not a all seeing eye. (thats the commander's UAV)

And LBs are best at scouting when a second person is in them using the FLIR (well...colourless) camera, which is something a spare huey can also do, and is actually better at surviving during that activity.

i personally love spotting for a GOOD sniper cuz i feel really effective, but it can be hard to find a good sniper. and if the sniper kit were removed it would be sorta nice so that way everyone is helping out the team capturing or defending a flag instead of staying 1000000000 miles away from any capture point, getting kills.

Actually the rocket huey would be a far smarter tool for the job. You use the rockets as markers, or the copilot can lase.

That and if you have the "shock and awe" effect of the rockets, you can basically daze the enemy for a bit and then have the Cobra come in to finish them off.

Probably a bad idea though.

The attack helos are still utterly useless against armor. In Muttrah, I was spotting from the minaret of the mosque. Lased a BDRM, put an attack marker on it, told them it was manned and to watch it, and they go in, the BDRM tears them a new one.

I hate them because you have to be in a squad to get one, and the fact you can never get them because there alway's taken by some 5 year old/

Rocket huey doesn't tend to survive long, and its CAS is required at the start.

Snipers are a vital part on some maps. like yesterday I was on muttrah and there was a sniper and a spotter on the hills, Me and my squad spotted them are was suppressing them and then next minute Boom! must of been apache tht got us. So ye they lazer targeted us knowing they could win against us and they wer doing tht all game to APC's, Infantry, FB and trucks etc
They won that game for the USA without them we would of batterd them!

So NO snipers shouldnt be removed.

I hate it when i cant build a firebase on the defensiv objective because a sniper took the logi truck, and used it as transport -.-' But apart from that, snipers can be really nice to have on your side .. Like this guy Carlos Hathcock - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia <- Carlos has 93 confirmed kills so if the sniper is like him and knows what hes doing i dont have a minimum problem with having them on my team
