Sniper Kit Discussion - Removal?

a few weeks ago i was playing on fool road , i was waiting on my kit ( enfield ) my teamate came up asked me what r u waiting i told him , i was waiting on my kit then he told my sq leader to kick me wtf ? well i wasnt mad at him , i understand u guys dont want a sniper in your team but then 5 mins later he saw me with the enfield he decided to come back with a car and ran me over ???????????? what is wrong with us (snipers) that u guys hate so much ? ? ? ( he was 1 of stomp clan ) .
we pick whatever we r good at , and we very often r on foot traveling kilometers , we dont take humvees and trucks ,sometimes spending 30 - 40 mins just to wait for targets . u say we dont help the team ? i dont think so , when u pick a kit that is when u help your team nomatter what and most of the time we have many kills which are meant tickets to the other team , even when we dont hit anything we still put fear on them
u say snipers love to be somewhere alone and dont want to help team ? no that is wrong we dont love to be alone we have to be alone to survive . 80 % when a sniper gets killed cuz of ppl walking around him , and we cant stay aroud the fight doesnt mean we r not helping .

pls stop being a hater because u cant get it or we r on the edge of the map somewhere . we play game for fun and nothing is better when ppl say it was a good game at the end of the map so be polite . u could hate them that is ok , u could kick them from your sq that is also fine , but TK them and talk shit about them is rediculous . when we save ppl we dont hear good job sniper , but we r happy . it is something special seeing some1 in the eyes b4 u kill them , make them fear u is the best moment

They don't do anything, and are almost always the people that run around, get shot, and lose the kit.

PR would be better without "snipers" since they act more like special forces then long range fire support.

Good Snipers provide recon etc, travel with a spotter for defence etc, and DO NOT LOSE THEIR KIT TO THE ENEMY.

This is why i hate snipers, and this happens 99% of the time.

Situation one;

guy takes sniper, leaves squad and makes his own locked squad. dies and disconnects.

Situation two:

im a squad leader, during brief time i issue kits and i say "no snipers". 'uber1337kid1994' requests the kit anyways and assures me he will work as a squad. so i say ok, but stick CLOSE ! you are a squad member!

15 mins later, we get near a flag and 'uber1337kid1994' says "ill go overwatch". we get into a fight and i check map and 'uber1337kid1994' is the other side of map. *kick*.


i absolutely hate snipers, hate them. ive kicked my own clan mates from my squads who have requested them. i would love to see the removed.

As im sure most will agree, the stereotypical sniper on most servers is more a hinderence than an asset.
They generally play servering their own needs and cause problems for the rest of the team.

Typical features are:

-Stealing/wasting trucks and cars for their own use and the resultant ticket loss, or leaving it a huge distance away.
-Wasting a slot on the server, in the place of a potentially more team-orientated player.
-Wasting marksman kits and anything else they percieve to be cool.
-Decreasing the level of realistic play due to the above.
-Joining squads for kits.
-Disconnecting when they die

Its just the usually well founded expectation that Players that find the Sniper kit ultimately more attractive usually are associated with the more arcadey aspects of vBF2 e.g Bunnyhopping.

However, unlike gazz, I dont feel they should be removed from the game, as snipers are an important factor to take into account when representing today's battlefields.

You asked "Why do people hate snipers?", a rather general question, but you seem to be responding as if your the sniper people are accusing many different players.
Theres little need to defend yourself. If you play like you claim you do, your probably one of the better and more welcome snipers.
Still, dont expect people to have a good first impresson of you if your sniping.

If you want to be a sniper than create or join a sniper squad. Most other squads are either armor or infantry squads which goes into close quarter battles which the sniper sucks at. A sniper is always a liability when working with infantry squads and that's why people hate snipers joining there squads. They want better squad support roles such as medics, riflemen specialists, AR, LAT, Gernadier. Anything that will assist them in there objectives which is not sitting 200m waiting for somebody but rather assaulting objectives and getting into close quarter combat.

Nobody is saying snipers aren't usefull, just so long as if you want to pick a sniper join the sniper or recon team.

thats what i personally hate, most pubbers cant live without kit request, every you walk by supply crate, nearly everybody tries to get something, and it doesnt matter what, they choose something, see "not available\all issued" then try another kit until they get something

Sniper kit should NOT be removed. there is nothing wrong with the kit, only the dumbass/noob players (whom are hardcoded).
i have never picked up a sniper kit because i rather be a rifleman but i have played games where a GOOD sniper team provided lots of intel (FOB and armor locations, weather an objective was defended or not) and harrassed enemy positions. so sniper teams have potential. i am always happy when i see a 2-3 player squad called "sniper voip" or "sniper tactical" that is locked and i see them on a strategic part of the map. unfortunately this is maybe 1 out 8 times in my experience.
i like to be SL because i know how to lead an INF VOIP squad. but way too many times people join my INF VOIP squad and get a sniper kit after i say repeatedly "no snipers! this is an INF squad!"
snipers should NEVER be in a squad that is not appropriately named "snipers" or something like that. its like having a tank or helicopter on "Alpha" or "Bravo" squad. snipers in non-appropriately named squads should be kicked automatically.

well i see lots of ppl here dont like snipers ( sorry i am not talking about bad snipers here ) , and maybe u r confused about snipers role . they have to be alone and fire from distance , they cant help individual sq or person because their role is to take out targets that they feel important such as medic sq leaders , hat ... and i dont think u guys read my posts , i dont know what others do but i dont join sq with sniper kit and not to follow orders , when i am with the kit i create a sq and i try my best first to stay alive , second to help the team ( not any sq or any one ) by watching over them , give out info about enemy movements , and i dont want to be around u . i dont think all snipers should be treated the same , to me i am afraid of snipers and i love them , because of them ppl value covers , knowing that 2 snipers on out team are somewhere taking away their tickets make me believe in a win . yeah i think ppl should act right when u want a sniper though , dont take trucks or humvees for a ride and have your own sq . but anyway sniping is a piece of art . i only snipe when i could have lee enfield so i gess u guys hate me less *.* , just love to hear they swear at me when i kill them with the enfield

You are very much missing the point of what everybody is trying to tell you. NOBODY hates snipers. People just hate snipers who join infantry squads because snipers don't belong in those squads. Further more people hate people who request snipers and will just sit there waiting to request one without asking SL for permission if you could grab it. By your original statement that is not what you did. Therefor people are trying to explain that to you.

You do have it right, snipers should be at a distance. That is exactly why you have to make your own sniper squad as no squad want's some squad member who SHOULD be at the SL's side helping him take objectives. If you can't do that (because you are a sniper) than you don't belong in that squad and the SL has every right to kick you out of it.

Regarding the rest, that is not what you said in your original post. You diddn't create a squad when you requested to sniper. You joined a existing infantry one. Which is the basis of this entire arguement is your original statement. You follow the guidelines that everybody has provided you in this topic and you won't be treated the way you think all of PR treats all snipers. PR treats snipers pretty good actually if they know how to snipe and have the common sense not to waste peoples time by occupying squad slots in infantry squads that they don't belong in. You do that and nobody will hassle you.

Sorry freeway, but all i hear from your posts are I this and I that. I, I ,I. Typical from most, but not all snipers. You said yourself that you care more about keeping your kit then helping the team. As this is a team oriented game, that is why many people don't like snipers who join other squads, take the kit then leave. A sniper waiting in the main for thier kit is only taking up space in the server. You have ten minutes before your kit respawns, go help take a flag or find a cache. Heaven forbid someone else gets the sniper kit while your helping the team to win. Most snipers are idle for 3/4 of the game, waiting for the sniper kit to respawn.

Another thing I don't like about said snipers is when they lose the kit and know the other team has it, they are the people that will switch teams to 1) tk the guy with your old kit or 2) find out on the map where they are, switch back, then try to go get the kit back.

The kit is like a virus, it changes people it touches..... i had a guy in my squad, who was a great squad member... then he saw a enemy sniper kit on the floor, and i lost him for ever! i said for him to leave it and no joke, for about 5 mins he kept picking it up and putting it down deciding whether to take it whistle our squad was fighting. i kicked him.

Well the problem with scoped noobs is that they enjoy playing ONLY with sniper kit...
They enter a game just to snipe.
They waiting for the sniper kit when they can take whatever they find and play PR.

Everybody has his likes. Pilot,sniper,medic etc. But when their liked kit is not free they still enjoy the game. Not so much as with their helicopter or sniper rifle but fair enough.

Everybody who doesnt enjoy playing PR because of the kit is a bad teammate.
I dont care if he is the best shooter, doghfiter, tank killer or whatever.
He is a bad teammate so i dont like him.

If i want to find good snipers i can play Sniper Elite online.
PR is about teamwork and requires good teammates.

It annoys me how people have made he sniper be seen like this because I can snipe rather well, but I will NEVER get a sniper kit in an infantry squad, I would only do this if told to by my SL but i never have. I will always be in a two man sniper/spotter squad if I am sniping.

And people just don't understand that sniping is about getting info as well as killing. People just don't get it. I stole a sniper kit from a US sniper on Fallujah today, and saw a full enemy squad running down the road, so I informed my squad, the guys around me via mumble and the rest of the team via chat. I then proceded to take out the medic and the remaining SMs and in the end took the whole squad out. But the point is, that if I hadn't taken them out, my team would still have none they were there and proceded to eliminate them.

I am very sad that the sniper class has earned the reputation that it has.
