imo really this is overcomplicating everything

if regular public games cannot handle 126 players, then it should be limited to between 85-100 players instead imo. A few less players, but a significant increase over 64, a bit less chaos for a bit more awesome.

As Rudd said, keeping comms discipline isn't much to ask from a few dedicated players.

Just because we haven't found a simple, intuitive system for it yet doesn't mean there isn't one. I would think it a shame if the ideas of organization with 126 player matches were given up on just because of a fear of over complication - not something PR has ever been worried by.

I don't think it'll ever be given up, I just think 100+ servers should be locked as organised events instead of the 'standard PR game' to ensure gameplay standards (in this case comms discipline) meet the required standard to be fun.

Nope.

Two fireteams + 1 squad leader.

If there was a way to edit the code squad code in Bf2 completly. We could make a TS like system. Ingame.

Squad Leader to Commander ( NumPad / )

inter-squad (aka SL to Squad Leaders channel) ( NumPad * )

intra-squad (aka forced center squad chat) ( NumPad 0)

Squad Leader to Fireteam ( NumPad - )

Fireteam to Squad Leader ( Ingame Voip B )

intra-fireteam ( since fireteam is a separate sub-channel it's also NumPad 0 )

local ( H )

Join fireteam ( NumPad + )

Leave fireteam ( ? )

Leave Fireteam needs a key, it also probably needs special coding so you can't leave Squad channel up to team side channel, and then up to game server channel, and up game channel to Root , by accident.

This assumes that:
A) The SL can not talk just to the Fireteam leader, SL will talk to entire Fireteam.
B) The Fireteam leader and members can not talk just to the SL, but instead will talk to entire Squad.

I think it's a good compromise that would require only a copy paste of the code for inter squad leader comms, and 1 new bit of code for the Leave fireteam codes.

I've always wanted a button to mute local, squad, and inter-squad chat. About twice a week I get overwhelmed by squad leaders saying unimportant information when I'm trying to listen to my tank gunner or whatever.

This feature would be greatly appreciated.

I like the idea, I must say though, that many squadleaders have adapted to the 12 player count quite well and are able to split the squad in 2 fierteams and lead them. The biggest issue is people talking when they dont have to. If there is not too much confusion in the channel 12 players works quite well.

Absolutely agree. Too often I try and say things to my squads and end up sounding like an indecisive moron entirely because I keep halting when someone yammers on about dancing with the stars in SL channel.

As for FTL channels, I'm of two minds on it. It sounds like a good idea, but honestly its totally unnecessary. If you think about it in real life fireteams don't use radios. They use voice because a fireteam is never far enough away from each other to need anything more. If you look at a game like Arma2 which has a huge realism and milsim community and have developed mods like ACRE which replicate real life radio usage even THEY don't use fireteam radios, not usually.

Fact is that how I always divvy up a 12 man squad is to find the best leader other than me, usually someone Im playing with already, give him an FT, forbid anybody to say anything that isn't absolutely essential to the squad (exceptions being like enemy tank driving over my corpse) and treat the squad radio like its the FTL channel. All other comms and control of fireteam members by their respective FTL is done with local.

There is no real need for this for infantry. However, I will say that it does offer some major advantages to vehicle operators. But as far as infantry are concerned you can accomplish the same thing with a bit of discipline on your existing comms and a smart use of local mumble.
