i recently have tried my hand at the command role, i am not very good, but i have had the fortune of have a number of good squads that will listen to orders, and give very usfull advice.
in my limited experience i have noticed that a commander is not only good for droping supplies (which has become much more important in .5) but if you have a number of well working squads, coordianting them is a must. however i am still trying to learn the role, but so far i am encuraged with it.

I'm praying for the day that a dev finds a way to make VOIP more suitable. As in being able to talk to a specific squad leader. Maybe even have one squad leader be able to talk to another. I invision this being set up on your number keypad.

If your a squad leader by pressing 1 you can talk to squad 1. and so on down the line. If you are squad 2 then you would want to press 2 to specifically speak to your squad. maybe designate 9 for talking to the commander.

If you are the commander, you press the number that corresponds to teh squad you wish to speak to. By pressing 9 you speak to all squads at once.

Again, I am praying lol

I think it would be great if they revamped the whole commander screen.

One thing I'd REALLY love to see is this:

You know how SLs can use the T-menu to set waypoint orders? What if they had a way of "requesting" those same waypoints. The commander then sees that request just as he would a request for arty or a rquest for supplies. He right clicks on it, and either dismisses it of picks from a list of squads in order to decide who he assigns it to.

So a SL sees a tank or sniper. He requests an attack command there, and informs the commander of the target. The commander assigns that attack command to the air squad. Done.

This would have so many uses.

It's a good concept Wasteland but I hate the idea. Pay attention to how often squad leaders change orders and you'll quickly change your mind. Besides, it's not the Commanders job to micromanage every squad, that's what the squad leader is for. The Commander has a very simple task, organize what the squads attack and defend.

Keeping things simple in a virtual war environment is the way to go. Complicated systems always fail in tense environments.

You wouldn't have to use those tools. It would just be a helpful tool for those looking for a higher level of inter-squad communication.
