its definitely the less glorious role, but if you have a stupid driver, the tank is going to go somewhere it shouldnt (ie. right up in the city on basrah without inf support) and die very fast
Hell yeah, swooping in and dropping off troops with the LB is a blast.

Advancing ahead of your squad and moving stealthy to observe and aleart of possible dangerareas or incomming hostiles/vehicles. Not very pointrewarding, but it gives you squad a chance to set up an ambush and wipe them out.

I had one round on Mao Valley where chineese passed me by so close I could smell their aftershave. Reporting in what sector, how many, what route they where taking, my squad wiped them out. When they did a body count they concluded that they where one body short. They hunted him down and killed him. He could have been a nobody, or he could have been an SL.

Another round where I was in a very capable and patient squad on defence details. I am unsure how long we waited and did patrols, but I don't think I exaggerate when I say about 15 minutes went by before suddenly every soldier on the other team hit us at once from one flank. Reinforcing, but not leaving one flank wide open, I stay in the back. In total I think I got 4 kills when ... well ... 4 soldiers just wandered into my sights on "my" flank.

Hauling an APC around the map, away from danger and not drawing attention to RP from teammates AND still beeing in walking distance to attackpoints without loosing it for an entire round?

Neither of these are very pointrewarding. It requires patience, discipline and cursing the gaminggods that not more hostiles comes your way.

It can still be damn fun. And those who actually ship folks around with choppers, jeeps or APC are my idols.

That is what makes that map so much fun. The tension.

Yeah, being recon is not a very good point rewarding activity. It is very valuable. Particularly during rounds that you have no commander.

Hmm. I remember with BFV, they did something to passively give points to transport pilots and drivers. However, someone could simply just fly around the map with an entire squad in his chopper and never land. Just for the points.

Its nice to know the PR staff are working on it for .7 but you're not being specific enough. Can you please tell us how exactly you plan to change this?

Unless you were a transport guy or someone assigned to just hide in the mountains and spot of course. I can't think of too many other instances where it wouldn't hold true. I'm sure there are a few more, but it does not reflect what an average troop is doing. You can judge how well the average troop is doing by score and stats. Prove me wrong.
SL's should not be getting crazy kill ratios or getting killed. So yes, you can be an excellent SL and have a really low score.

Low scores and FRs of 0.5 are only bad for non-suicidal teams. When you play as the insurgents, it is very common to have 50 deaths and only 25 kills. Its been many a round that I drove at 100km/h into an enemy APC for the cause - that's an important tactic that gets rewarded with negative points.

But you are right about the average troop - they should have a FR of at least 1.0.

Not only that, but the last thread was called "Show some love for the drivers" or something to that effect.

Also, with rally points squad leaders have much more of an ability to take point. Especially since their the only ones who can place move and attack commands.

I think, the reward for driving (especially a tank) is that you live and all those poor suckers you gunner is blasting away at die.....
:D

I've seen a couple of tank crews just annihilate the other team.. It was amusing.. and made everyone else's job so much easier. I love crewman!

yeah. its a shame. i played SL on sunset city lately and i was always a bit behind, staying alive, spotting enemies with soflam, setting up rallye points, calling arty and supply for the armor, relocating the apc after setting up rallye point and so on... i never really got to engage someone (btw, thanks to my squad, u were awesome). so no points :( but BIG fun :)

Having a low score, and a bad one are two different things lol. A guy who creeps around doing recon and spotting and maybe only getting 3 kills, but no dying will have a low score. A guy who runs around like an *******, dies 25 times, only kills 5 people, and gets a negative teamwork score because 3 of the 5 were tks is a bad score.

or some poor guy flies a blackhawk all round and gets a nice mix of noobs trying to hitch a lift on the roof, noobs running underneath a landing blackhawk and getting creditted with teamkills, then maybe gets killed once by an RPG ambush as he drops a squad off and gets creditted with 6 teamkills right there :p

omg I hate that so much. The other thing I hate is when you and your gunner get in a cobra and some guy tries to jump on the wing. I guess they are doing it out of spite or they are morons. Sucks you get a tk from that.

Certainly not, but stats are a tangible way to grade your own personal performance. Which I think comes second to your team winning, but it's still important.
