Ok PR team, where is the love for the selfless driver!
Drivers of Tanks, APCs & Choppers that sit is the drivers seat all round, avoiding RPGs, AT rockets and Arty strikes, lining up their drivers for good shots etc get zero reward shown through the in-game recognition system, ie Stats!
Yes I’m talking about stats…
(Please do not make this a tread about whether we should have stats or not, we have them.. so lets go from there.. ok?)
…. This mod is all about promoting teamwork etc, then why is very little reward given to players who dedicate a round to transporting troops etc with no chance of getting any kills, maybe the odd road kill.
It’s a little demoralising to work your socks off for the team all round in a fairly boring role (driver) to only get 15 – 20 team points! (Don’t forget whenever your transport is destroyed you loose most the points you received for helping your team!)
Why would the gunner of a tank get a ton of points but his driver that has lined up all his shots and kept him alive only gets a handful?
If there were NO stats I would play this game just the same, BUT there ARE stats, let’s try and make them promote team play.
Surely dropping off a full LB to the front lines or keeping a tank dominating the western desert at Ejod for 15 mins is better for the team than some poxy sniper killing a grunt from 250m. But no! the sniper for his one kill get 80 teamwork points and the driver of the tank 10 mins later has 10 team points, which he will loose when his vehicle is destroyed!
Why!!! Why????? It goes against everything else in the mod… teamwork.

I read a post while ago where someone said that the dev team is going to adjust the stats system. Maybe driver points is included?
Or for that matter other team work points , like calling in arty?

Define irony. A bunch of guys playing PR year after year. A game teaching initiative as the prime mover.

Good question - I want a pay raise!
I have thought about this many a time. Well done for bringing up this infuriating issue. I like to play transport pilot on non-Al Basrah maps so I know the feeling all to well.

Points are especially needed on server like :iGi:s where they kick the players with the lowest scores to make room for clanmembers.
I remember once when i was flying the littlebird transport helicopter on a USA vs China map (Goverment office, fishing village, processing facility, i cant remember the map's name) and looking for enemy activity from the air and reporting to my squad, transporting friendly troops to the frontlines etc. A few minutes later tough, I was kicked because i had a score of 0. Luckily noone was in my helicopter at that moment, but our team lost a perfecly fine helicopter, because the pilot was kicked.

I have been spend most of my time as a driver lately APC,Tank, or hum-v.
I think most people playing PR have not developed good squad tactics supporting a vehicle in battle. Plus vehicles are HUGE targets, and everyone and ther mother that gets killed by a vehicle comes back with the anti-tank kit. Just last night I was in an APC I rolled up and wiped out 5 combatants, then they must have all respawend on there rally point with anti-tank kits and promptly took care of me.
I think if you possibly changed the rifle that comes with the standard anti-tank kit to a smaller sub machine gun it may force people to play a certain roll with the standard anti-tank kit, much like the insurgents are forced to with just a pistol as back up.
All in all though, I don't see people using/supporting vehicles as there intended to. Allot of armor to be found at the home base half way through just about any map.

There is a driver assist kill. I'm not sure what the ratio is. A lot of driving does not involve gunships or tanks though. Little bird transports. People who ferry players from one place to another constantly get no credit for doing it. Yes I know winning is more important than scores and stats... blah blah blah. I am one of the few it seems find stats as helpful. I don't go out of my way to improve in an area during a round though. That is silly. I can however measure how careful I'm being in a round, or how efficient I have been with my weapon by viewing stats. I think a good transport pilot should be rewarded as such. In .7 I suppose we will see this change.
On a side note I played in Devfile last night for a bit and there was a guy transporting troops from the US main into the city with the Blackhawk. He did this for 10 minutes or more before being downed on a return run. A bit of selfless service goes a long way and I want to thank whoever that was.

Its not really about the points
I would like to point out (NPI) that I don't care for points, but people do look at the stats and when they see someone with a low score they generally immediately associate it with poor round performance. Unfortunate but that is just the way it is. Looking forward to 0.7 then.

Well quite frankly the assumption is true more often then not. Low scores/stats do reflect a poor round. Unless you were a transport guy or someone assigned to just hide in the mountains and spot of course. I can't think of too many other instances where it wouldn't hold true. I'm sure there are a few more, but it does not reflect what an average troop is doing. You can judge how well the average troop is doing by score and stats. Prove me wrong.

Your certainly right. It is not all about the points or stats. However a guy who looks at his stats and sees he has died 25 times is also not much of a help to his team. That is the point I'm making. You look at your stats and see that you have died quite a bit, you may work on being more careful and improving your awareness. To say there is no corrolation or use to stats just seems silly to me. Drivers should be rewarded with more points. (But I'd like to see that tankdrivers at least have to be in the same squad like the gunner, and vice versa. The best way, in my eyes, is still 1 person alone being able to drive and shoot. But I've said that often before.)
Setting a Rally Point should be rewarded with scorepoints.
"Engineers" should get more points for repairing something.
Medics should be able to place some packets again. (Remember the dressing kits)
Snipers should get rewarded for killing (and highlighting) enemies near his/her squadmembers. Dunno if that's possible. And we need more snipers

stupid driver, the tank is going to go somewhere it shouldnt (ie. right up in the city on basrah without inf support) and die very fast
A tank being drived around like this is very annoying and unrealistic too. Because your team loses a tank (the modern cavalry!) due to untrained personell. :d uh:
