I think that only the SL should have access to the minimap, this will encourage more teamwork.

Well now you've done it. I used to be firmly in the "don't change the minimap" camp. But this changed my mind. If the enemy soldier gets the drop on you, yes, he should kill you. If your teammate sees him, look at your teammate and see where he's aiming. Then fire in the same direction. Or just, like you say, take cover and press "M". It's not that difficult to do. Much easier than opening up a GPS.

I don't think the M map should be changed, at least for now. I think that a minimap change is a big step, and we should take a look at that first.

One other possible change that would be nice to see would be to make it so you had to "Q-rightclick-select-spot" things. Not just Q-spot them like you can now. This way you'd need to make sure of what they are, whether their friendly or enemy, etc. If possible, air assets should not be changed, as they move so fast.

.
my answer: the minmap makes up for the lack of instantaneous communication that a real squad would have in combat. not everyone in game has voip or speaks a common language.

sometimes i tell my squad to hold fire, even after i've spotted enemies. in other words it';s not always advised to start shooting without squad leader orders, say, if the soldier is trialed by an MBt several yards behind. good enough?

I think they should change the maps if they need to. Like maybe some maps could use a few more buildings, or trees. Maybe some could use a bridge, or a different military base and stuff.

Leave the minimap alone. Removing it would cross the line into suck.

I agree...

but i said that this statement was crazy talk..

so you've gone a bit left field with me their.

And anyway let the DEVs have their fun trying new stuff.. voting against proposed changes before you even know how they will be implemented just seems daft to me.

The thing about the maps is that its the only solid intel that we can count on. I know its unrealistic but i feel like it makes up for the fact that we are not really in the battle. We are restrained to our PC screens and can not sense things as we would IRL so i think the maps should stay.

my thoughts exactly, it makes up for the lack of instant verbal communciation that may not be present in an online game. if you have voip that works too, but not everyone uses it.

DO NOT remove the minmaps, DO NOT make them avialable to only a SLs, ETC.

This mod already has enough core rule changes. Too many and the fun will evaporate.

who's with me?
I don't get people who play a REALISM game but yet want a little tell all minimap in the top right of your screen that can tell you where the enemy is etc etc etc....

Yeah and all squads cant talk to each other so we need that to keep things on track(as best as us smacktards will allow :p )

and it makes 3/4 of us stop playing PR. If i had to walk 17 km every time i died? no thanks!

Come on,you can't have complete realism all the time, especially when squads can't communicate with each other effectively!

the maps fill that void.

Take away the minimap, leave the "M" map. Problem solved.

no, you are ignoring the logic that i have put forth.
read back a few pages.

the minimap/standard map fills the void that the lack of instant, uni-lingual, intersquad communication creates.

What....? the M map is instant :) You open it up and its instant.

Of removing the minimap? Because while you have the M map up it takes up 90% of your screen and you cant shoot or anything.

when you shoot , your eyes are pointing at the center of the screen not in the minimap , I still dont see the point .

Im sorry, but im with Major Baker here.

If someone spots an ememy, i dont want to have to press a button to bring up a map, then spot where the enemy is in relation to me, then close the map. Ok, all that mite take a few seconds - but in those few seconds someone could have the drop on me.

The minimap provides a close proximaty warning in the game, in the same way in real life a teammate would, by yelling out that theres an enemy to the north - 20 metres etc. I know that voip would solve all this, but like another poster said - not everyone has it.

It shouldnt be removed imo
