Maybe advertise the realitymod forums in some server messages if possible.

I've done the whole password thing before and it kinda half works. Some people just get the pw through friends or without carefully reading the rules/player guide (as they just skip straight to pw).
Though I think for the more mature players they will read the player guide anyway because they want to know how to get the most out of the game.
Of course, you don't need to pw any actual servers, just pw the section that contains all the links to download it. Bear in mind though that some people will just get it from Fileplanet like I did.
I suppose you could include some text info and links at the end of the install process so people know where to go.

Nice, neat and simple.
No coercion that mygots will take pleasure in avoiding, no heavy handed tactics, just a simple message.
Make it part of the PROS package that a few simple lines be added to the server messages.
Great idea ryan d ale

I have played PR since 0.1 (back when it was PRMM

) I didn't play consitantly until .4 and didn't start reading the forums until then. I read the player manual with each new download but didn't feel the need to register. I have learned allot and changed my playing style since regularily reading the fourms. However for most games I play I don't join the forums until I have played it long enough to have a good feel for the game.
The password servers are usually really good. I play the TG password nights and can almost gaurentee good squads on those nights

Player numbers are not always great but usually 20 a side.

actually i f anyone has access to a good reliable server that we can use as "The official" PR server and have DEVs admin that would be great...
we used to have a wonderous gloryhoundz server where smacktards were often vote banned/kicked/nerfed within minutes of messing around...would be great to have those days back again....
seriously those were the glory days so far.....(hoping they will come back around soon!)

That would be nice. So atleast competent players that are looking for a better gameplay experience has somewhat of a place to hang out...and we can get rid of un-cooperative players at anytime.
There was a thread about Paypal donation a while ago. Maybe such donations could go into a PR official server.

I'm all for promoting this mod, and these forums. They're essential reading for all players and encouraging players to get over here and participate can't do any harm and would hopefully lead to great gameplay.
It would be great if the 'Message from EA' annoucement when you log into the game could be customised, with tips or advice, instead of the usual EA rubbish! Or something like the gameplay tips you see in BF2142.
For sure I'll be adding a server spam message in game directing players in this direction.

That would be totally awesome. It could be useful..instead of promoting a stupid map for a boring game
But hey! its EA. Must be hardcoded.

I registered on forum straight away. If you decide to play game like PR it's very useful to join community and meet other players. Discuss tactics and learn about game itself.
Verification e-mail system is fine by me. No probs here.
A lot of people is tired of some forums coz those forums don't bring anything positive. In here some of the topics starts interesting and get drifted away with some other stuff (mostly irrevelant) in that topic.
I'm not playing now coz my hand is in mess (smashed thumb) but i'll be back.

If the topic drifts, just post that ...say " hey, stay on topic" and most people will return to the topic to keep the omniscient uber R-Mods from locking it.

Tournaments, official servers and a line in PROS settings pack is the way forward

Thanks for the replies fellas, it's nice to know that maybe a few of you feel the same way as I do.
I'm not suggesting that there is one single tactic for every single thing in every single part of the game, but I am however suggesting that if we wish to have a game played around one 'supreme idea' (the logic and ethic shown in the forums), then more people need to check this place out every couple of days.
On that note! A server message, official servers and maybe tournaments are definatly the way forward!
I would like this topic not to die, as I honestly feel its very important we adress such an issue, espeically to get this 'PR style of play' officially into full swing on every server. Or at least as close to it as possible.
The official server is interesting. Obviously cost comes into play, as well as maybe donations (of money and/or servers). What's everyones thoughts on that?
And the server message, that'd be simple to include in the whole PROs systems wouldn't it? Or am I wrong

Completely agree about encouraging users to hit these forums.
Being a newer player however, I get the impression that the community is just as split due to all of the 0.6 beta play going on. I play on 0.5 servers and it seems like PR veterans are in short supply. Is the 0.6 beta limited at all? If it isn't then I really think it should be to encourage more 0.5 servers and players until 0.6 is ready for full release.

That's all very true. But luckily, the BETA is only temporary, and this small split you talk of will be gone (I should think) when .6 is released in full in about 2 1/2 weeks.
(Or less for that matter)

p.s. thanks for keeping the thread alive.

funny you should comment about OB length just finished posting about it on the tester forums mere minutes ago..
actually we can use more testers so if you are interested please look for the relevent thread and PM us...
cheers...
ps. smacktards need not apply for testing access (mature players prefered..we have a good mature team...except for desert fox..but he is more like a stray dog that you take sympathy on and throw a bone to sometimes than a real tester...)...

Mature? Bah...
I spent the better part of last night on a server having to put up with some guy first arguing about everything in world politics that he could think of, and then over an hour talking about his up and coming colon inspection...in graphic detail.
I'm only thankfull that he didn't have a mike so I simply ignored what he was typing.
I guess it's still Vanilla BF2 for some folks.
Also methinks servers should share ban lists since EA is staying out of the mods.
