The PR Community is split

Post by bigmoose332 »

I frequent these forums daily, and everyday I'll see users posting decent threads describing good tactics, and solid ways to play the game. And I'm sure 90% of the forums users who read this stuff will go away, play the game and use what they've just read in the game.

Yet, when I play a public server, I rarely see a lot of these said things. Do you know what I mean?

That's why I've come to the conclusion, that A LOT of the PR 'community', don't use these forums. And in a game where it's still, essentially, still at its very foundations - I think it's a shame that more of the players don't attend the forums even rarely.

Maybe it's up to us, the forum users, to promote the fact that PR has a very VERY healthy (and friendly) forum community. That way we can genuinely build a very solid community.

What do you guys think to this? Do you think half of the community never use the forums? Do you think we ALREADY have a very solid community?

I would second that.
Any question you have about the game or your rig will be answered here, not to mention tactics.
I don't often tell people to visit the forums and I played for 3-4 months before I started to read and post so it's not unusual.
But I will take some of my dead time to spam the address and encourage people to visit the site.
Great suggestion Bigmoose.

The thing is most people don't register. As soon as I started playing v.31 I frequented the old forums quite often, but I didn't register until I had something to say.

You won't believe the amount of guests that are on, who just don't register.
It was more than half a year that I just browsed.

I've heard talk from a lot of long term players that they are using these forums less and less due to the reduced calendar of news items rollout that drew them into the forums to talk, but are styaing with the mod because of how good it is.

However, too many people type in all chat ingame "what's the shovel for" and that does show a lack of respect for the game that during the time it took to download 1.4gigs they couldn't swing round and have a look at the online manual describing how to play.

Start making a list of players you know can play, that play in your playing houyrs, then go join servers they are on! Maybe eventually the rest of the players will stop to read the manual, then spend some time thinking how to utilise the information, play on the public servers and see how everything works, then go away and think some more on what they can do with their newly acquired knowledge.

It's because of the damn email verification system. Take that off and we'll have SO many more registrations.

I hate forums. But I'm here on the PR ones. Maybe people don't have the time that's my excuse for not doing stuff. But yeah, there's a lot to be learnt here and you get to know some of the community.

Yeah El Vikingo beat me to it.
W/o the email verification the R-Mods would be able to do nothing but chase bots.
Some places won't let you register w/ AOL or Hotmail or Yahoo so its not like it is that hard to register.

-As a general rule of thumb I try to play every third game as squad leader and every tenth game as commander but as it is on public servers I have to play every fourth game as commander and just about every game as SL, it's getting tiresome... I try to keep up some semblance of unit cohesion but people just don't want to follow orders and there's always one squad camping at main, doing nothing constructive. Id's say that the greatest problem is the lack of (competent) commanders who have an overall view of the events, and a good plan.

-Just today I was playing .06 Beta on Oilfields and our squads were all spread out, so we lost everything but main. As noone else were doing anything I took my squad up to Oil Refinery and capped the flag but the other squads just kept camping at main and we lost Oil Refinery again. Half the time I was yelling(Well, not literally yelling...) at the commander to get those squads out of main to take some flags but they just kept sitting there.

-Another thing is people setting up too many squads, 1-3 man squads that can do nothing constructive and just run around the map like retarded monkeys. I keep telling them over chat that they should merge their squads but they just want to run around and kill people with no goal...

-I'll be back to rant some more later :P

I think the reason forums aren't as busy as they should is mainly time since most people online are hooked up to several forums already. I don't the email verification thing is that much of a problem since I got mine instantly.

I'm an admin for an RP server for GTA:SAMP. Our forums normally busy, but then we have a lot of RP stuff and gang threads etc. We also have an irc channel for it too, though some players probably spend way too much time on there than the actual server, which is more annoying...trust me :)

On the SAMP server I run (which has a lot of RP rules), players either find the rules overwhelming or those who aren't very good at English just don't get them at all.

I also think if there was an official server that everyone here went to that you'd get a stronger community to and more reason for people to come here. For instance, I frequent our GTA server forum regularly, yet I've never been on the official SAMP forum.

I played PR for 9 months before I registered on the site.. back then the mod wasn't as complicated..

I'll set a new goal.. I have to meet at least two new people a night while gaming. heck.. i really don't even know that many people on the boards now.

yeh i didnt register till later on as well, i think the main obstacle is that new players have to learn everything straight away, where as if youve run with the mod you learn the things in stages so you can master one aspect before doing something else. newer players have to master everythign straight away.

Sorry, I think I didn't make my point clear :D

We can discuss how certain players aren't doing this and that, but I'm suggesting a reason for why the ENTIRE PR community dont act with one 'idea'.

Let's say this idea is.. sticking together in a squad, using VOIP and whatever else.

I'm suggesting that the reason people aren't doing this, is because they aren't part of our split side of the community.

There seems to be two sides
-Those who discuss the mod/read about the mod and its developments on the forums. Regardless of whether they are registered or not.
-Those who download the mod, look at the website and forums briefly whenever a new release happens.

Don't you think it's a good idea, to almost advertise the fact that the website is not only a place to communicate with like minded people, but to learn about gameplay, the military, tactics and any other point i've cared to neglect!

Yeah I agree with that. I think to a newcomer the forum is pretty big and overwhelming at first and if you're not that clued up on PR then you probably won't post suggestions and tactics etc.

Is there a section specifically for tactics on maps? I can't recall off top of my head.

Are you saying there are some people who read all about this mod yet don't actually play it much or at all?

I heard about PR first on FilePlanet I think, though I knew one guy from my GTA server who played here. I think he recommended it if I can remember right.

some people are more interested in just jumping on a game and having fun in a virtual warfare so you'll always get some that just never visit the forums.

I think most people who are BF2 lovers would want to really get into the tactics of maps, squad RP almost since that's the most enjoyable aspect. Not being on your own but feeling part of a team and engaging the enemy as one.

Though as I said, this is a pretty large site for any newcomer so perhaps a summary in the news section about all that would encourage people to get more involved.

When I first heard of PR, the first thing I did was read the whole guide(some parts twice), lurk on the forum and register. With all the tactics/info I read it took me less than an hour to get used to PR and get a decent K/D ratio, I never understood why everyone says PR has a steep learning curve.

Edit: Oh, and the other day I played on .5 and asked my team why they weren't playing .6 OB, I got almost 32 replies all saying ".6 beta is out?!" and "where can I download it ?"...

how bout a server that has a password that you can only get from the forums, i think that would cut off a lot of the noobs who don't read anything and just go in and play. of course... it might be empty alot...
