ugh..
Can we maybe start a sniper thread without any of this 'anti sniper smack'.
This isn't aimed at all of you, and I'll list names if I get a smacktard reply, but some of you are simply stating..
'Snipers suck. I don't have to tell you why, they just do. You are wrong and I am right. Shutup'.
This discussion went off the rails soon, and it's a shame we never got to discuss some of the 'spotter class' and 'tactics with the soflam' ideas.
Ahh well, there's always going to be downsides to every community I suppose.

Bo**ocks to most of you. Why should we make the sniper useless? Because "n00bs" play as sniper? What if the sniper was actually useful? No, of course, that's not possible. Yes it is. It can be very useful if used properly. In .6, Spec Ops doesn't have the SOFLAM, so he can't spot as well for the sniper. So I say, give the sniper his range finder. In what way does that attract n00bs? I hardly think all the n00b sniper whores say "Oh, sweet, I can see how far away my target is. I MUST have that kit!" It's not the ability to measure distance that makes the sniper kit attractive. If it was, the officer kit would be much more popular.
I say, give the sniper his range finder. One, because it will be the only way of measuring distance for him. Two, because it's realistic. Which most of you apparently don't care about as long as it has got to do with snipers. It would actually be a useful feature, unlike e.g. f*str*ping.

Not that F word, the PR specific one. Which you did use.
And you're right. Its not the ability to measure distances that makes the sniper attractive. But the ability to measure range combined with the rifle (and its new proper zero) significantly reduces the learning curve and makes the sniper an easier class to play as it factors out one of the skills snipers should have, range estimation. Given that there are few other mitigating factors for the snipers in PR (no wind, etc) the removal of this makes the sniper class substantially simpler to use.
Given that many players would think the below comic strip an accurate assessment of the majority of snipers in PR (there are a few truly good ones who I've nothing but respect for) you can see why there was perhaps an overly hostile response to giving snipers even more equipment (especially when suggested by someone with "sniper" in their name. Usually the mark of the bragging wannabe than someone who is actually decent with the class)
This also highlights the need for spotters for close range defense and better situational awareness.

Well said mate, give him his rangefinder. i'm sick of fags on these fourms always being ******** about peoples suggestions.
As far as what I think there should be a seperate spotter kit, and remove the snipers pistol which I will suggest here at a later time.
With the rangerfiner its not like its giving the sniper much more of a advantage. Heck all its doing it helping him to judge his shot.

As much as I'd like the class removed from SOME maps and limited to 1 in general I think this is a good suggestion.
I don't get peoples duality towards the whole "n00b" thing. Anyone suggests anything for a sniper class etc they immediately become subject of a torrent of shit as proven above but people don't seem to mind as much when it comes to introducing a new heli or armoured vehicle which is what tends to attract these kinds of players in the first players.
Back on the subject again, if hypothetically the devs gave this to the snipers (in all likelihood they'd give them to a spotter class if one is ever to be created) what "n00b" is going to take the time to perfectly line up perfect shots, it'd take too long for a good player to switch between these kinds of binoculars and their rifle. Nevermind someone who probably doesn't care about sniping properly in the first place and does it in a situation a scoped assault rifle would be better suited to in the first place.
By the way the whole zeroing thing is fixed isn't it?

A sniper can create a lot of havoc with his rifle itself. The "anti sniper Smacktardism" as you guys call it, is because of the amount of people who missuse the kit.
What is the first kit that appears on the screen at the start of the round?
Sorry, Sniper Kits are not available until rienforcements arrive.
Sorry, no Sniper Kits are available.
Sorry all Marksman Kits are gone.
They just run around by them selves instead of defending a flag, or covering another squad when capping that flag.
An excellent sniper would concentrate on taking out the commander on the other side.

And you'll have to excuse my language, but I'm sick and tired of people who mistake the kit for the people who are often attracted to it. It's a bit like saying that because fast cars tend to attract fresh - and therefore bad - drivers, fast cars = horribly, horribly bad cars that should be banned or given 50 BHP, max.
People, the sniper kit is a kit that can be an asset to a team. A lonewolfing n00b not so much. But please separate the two things. Just because a kit is often misused, we shouldn't try to prevent the proper use of it any more that we should make a Lamborghini go 40 km/h. Does that make sense to anyone, or am I to tired?

I'd say that snipers should primary outsnipe enemy snipers\marksmen . Then SL's , CO , engineers that are building\repairing stuff , medics . Riflemen & others are less likely to be sniper's targets as they are mostly engaged in CQ fire fights and can be taken out by common squad level small arms.
p/s once I took out ( with my trophy L115A1 - I never request sniper kit myself ) 4 crewmen that tryed to repair one single tank . One more brilliant usage for sniper - kill their tank crews when they are repairing their armour
p/p/s Tell me why all this never happen ?

Because most snipers care about their K/D ratio and dun wanna be bothered to move from their comfy camping spots to risk getting killed by an enemy sniper/armor/whatever it is the team needs help with.

I agree with you on this that we tend to have a pre-dispossed negativity towards sniper and SF suggestions. I think this is founded in the fact that a large percentage of these suggestions come from people who are obviously new to PR. These newer PR players usually lack the understanding of the tactics you outlined, as well they are used to having unlimited access to the kit from vanilla.
If, for example, you had suggested this idea I'm sure people would have been more receptive to it because you obviously know more about PR and its ideals.
The original poster in this case did a good job of finding real life facts and presented the idea as a viable addition. This is an exception to the norm and as such I thougth it was good idea

Absolutely. Good to see someone who talks sense in all this anti-whatever-that's-not-a-regular-grunt-kit madness.
