I'd say there was about as much chance of that as suddenl;y introducing Rogue Trooper style personality chips inside weapons so your average lone wolf sniper can sit well back from his rifle whilst it auto fires on the enemy leaving the sniper perfectly safe behind his 9x motion activated claymores and cleverly disguised by his active camoflage system, feather boots, sound dampening electronic warfare system and otehr devices snipers always want to make themselves the most aloof player on a multiplayer server.

[R-DEV]Jaymz: That has to be...the most epic response to a welcome thread I have ever seen. [R-CON]Mr.D ladies and gentlemen!

1. If the devs wanted a range finder for them, they'd give 'em a SOFLAM.
2. Learn the distances. You shouldn't need a range finder if you're a good sniper.
3. It would make more sense to give this to a "spotter" class than the actual sniper. Teamwork man, teamwork.
4. Snipers already get a rifle that is more powerful and accurate than any other small arms on the team. And they get a fair quantity of ammo for it too. In addition, they get a pistol, frags, smokes, binos, a knife and a field dressing.
Basically: Learn the damn class. You can zap targets with 1 hit kills with pin point accuracy at ranges the rest of the team can only dream of (tankers and Pilots excluded). In exchange you have a class that is the ultimate in mid range suck. You shouldn't need **** like this. You should know the maps, know the ranges and know what your zero is so you can make first shot hits and kills every time. This makes the sniper class less skillful to use (it should require one of the highest levels of skill to use properly, imo) and is therefore, in my opinion, undesireable.
Or you could just use the built in workaround.

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.
Many thanks to [R-DEV]Adriaan for the sig!

Is it really necessary for you guys to be so rude and condescending? Frankly, I think this is an excellent idea that will help sniper teams out a lot. You guys seem to have an anti-sniper/EA/DICE superiority complex that pisses me off - knock it off. This is not a ridiculous suggestion. This is not asking for snipers to ULTRAUBERLEET. This is a feasible suggestion in terms of work vs gameplay impact. I would love to have something like this in.

"No" is just so boring.
I like his version better.
Suggestion: Get a buddy to go spec ops and use his SOFLAM to spot for you and watch your back. Believe it or not snipers actually do work in teams in real life.
What would work with this idea though would be for the sniper to be able to make adjustments to his zero on the fly, making a spotter with a range finder useful.

Except you can spam waypoints from ingame (not the map) all you want at longer ranges, and most of the time they will either not appear, or appear in front of your face.Bob_Marley wrote:Heh, just make yourself a squad leader and you've got a range finder on any weapon./

I was actually spotting for a sniper as an SL once, and I couldn't put any waypoints, or for that matter, spot anyone on a ridge near the end of the draw distance on Kufrah.

The only issue with being a spotter is that it makes for quite boring gameplay for the spotter.
As to the OP, there's no reason I can see why these shouldn't be in game, they are there IRL.

Oh come on, can we not get at least a
If snipers are issued range finding optics IRL then I believe that PR should have them. We have lone wolf sniper whores now and we don't have range finding optics so I don't see that changing anything. I can't see people picking the sniper kit based soley on range finding optics, its all about the scoped rifle. Now if you do include the feather boots that will attract more people to the class so be carefull.

Did you even have to ask?
Yes the sniper class is a big magnet for the BF2 n00bs, that doesn't mean we should temper the kit away from reality to stop them from picking sniper. If it is realistic for them to have range finding optics then they should have them, simple. We don't cater to the BF2 crowd when implementing other areas of the game, so why handicap a kit to discourage them? Most of the other features in game already make BF2 style of play un-desirable and un-rewarding.
I don't know why I'm arguing about this really, I can count on one hand the times I have had the sniper kit. I just don't like the anti-reality slant because we don't like lone wolf sniper whores.
