Hell, I've been burned - but my point is, if you see a pilot who's doing everything by the book - use him.
Nothing more irritating for a (good) pilot to be stuck on the deck endlessly lifting single guys out to their squads (because the SLs don't have RPs up), while the squads treck endlessly backwards and forwards across the map instead of using the speedy option.
10 minutes long walk or 2 minutes to a safe EZ, 1 minute flight and 2 minute walk from the LZ to the CP? I know which I prefer!

After reading some of the stuff here (and posting some of my own), I present to you, a thread dedicated solely to the purpose of gathering all of your tales of woe and hilarity involving something flying/not flying anymore.

The problam is that their are too many BF2 players who still think that heli can take off in 5 seconds and end up killing everyone around him. I check twice before jumping into a heli now, manily to see if the guy is a newb who'll get me blown up

One of the advantages of having a (decent) (working) (accurate) rank system in PR would be that it would help indicate who should be decent in various vehicles...

One of these days I'll plug my joystick in and learn to fly. After all this time I'm sure my name is recognisable enough to warrant people thinking "if he is flying that chopper, I'm probably safe from noob actions with him"
At the moment I make bets with my passengers about whether I'll crash inside or just outside the wire on OGT as Chinese

Tbh, that map -is- hell for chopper pilots. I don't think that I have ever seen someone land the PLA one, and then take off again without crashing...and not always due to the pilot's fault...I dunno who made that map, but something tells me he really doesn't like choppers

OGT isn't a map I'd've included either bird on, to be honest. The merlin in particular just ends up having strings of C4 and mines dropped out of its arse.
I've done the trip from the PLA main to the temple - dropping a squad off on the slope immediately south of the CP - and returned to base okay, but only a few times. Mostly once the bird is up, it never manages to come down in one piece :/

The joy of pilots comes with that US vs Chines map with the town in the centre spanning a bridge over a N/S river (yeah, I should remember its name but don't!)
When the US lose their base just east of where the LB's are it is game over! All you see in chat is the screaming in chat of those watching all the LB's falling on their sides.

Road to Korgua'Ni or whatever it's called.
I actually never played that map before, but I've read some nasty stories about it

I was prone in the desert out by factory on Al Basrah with 2 other squad-mates and a merlin actually flew up to me and proceeded to hover 3 feet in the air about 1M from me. I was left wondering, WHY! Just why!

One guy (in my team) shot down my helicopter with the explanation "annoying sound" a few months ago.

And at another occasion, one of the guys in the squad I was about to pick up (order from the CO) shot me once I had landed, and tried to fly away by himself with his squad...
Stupid people + transport helicopters = bad idea!

NickO wrote:Problem is the landing pad.. It has a fence around 2 sides of it about 5 m from the landing pad. A wall of boxes on the other side and a building/aa gun behind. Which means the pilot needs to land perfectly in the middle with 0 visibility down.
Recently played with a few guys and instead of landing I had Lordloss dropping c4's and mines out of the back and repairing when damaged. Only landed to pick up Noobofthenight when he joined the game.. And even then I landed on the open road area at the entrance of the facility..
I remember that, you went nuts on TS becasue of my Stinger

yeah choppers shouldn't try and pick people up except for on squad leaders request, often i find choppers give away my position more than anything, ive been known in VbF2 to shoot a friendly chopper down if i see it necessary to the game, seriously mister pilot man if im behind enemie lines coming up on a flag with a squad of 5 other guys why would i want a chopper to come make a bunch of noise 4 feet away from me. you might as well drag a sign behind you that says "LOOK OUT ENEMY THEY ARE COMING UP BEHIND YOU THEY ARE OVER HERE"

Same thing happened to me & my squad on OGT: trying to do a sneaky on temple and this *@$\% in a Merlin hovered over us all the time.
Not amusing.
