Yes we know the realism argument and sometimes it serves a purpose and other times it would just complicate and bog the game down for no real skill involvement.
We allready have sufficient doubt in our friend/foe recognition. Theres no further need

Is there no skill in making sure you're not operating so far in advance of your own lines that your team think you're hostiles?
Seems to me that it takes more skill to do that than just pressing Q, hitting your LMB and checking the map to see if the red dot or question mark pops up on top of a blue dot or not.

lol pwned
Definately one of the most skilled things is knowing where your forces and the enemies are on the map. and also to operate as such an effective TEAM (not enough commanders) so that you know the tactic that's being used and where your friends are likely to be.
If more people acted as commander then maybe we can have it so the CO can see the Squadleaders, at least then they have some way of telling SL's when theyre near friendly forces

I think friendly fire will happen with people just turning a corner, while still level with each other.
They'll have voip, the commander and text to communicate to avoid tk. That just equates to spam to me, if people bother at all. Its reasonable for friendly positions to be known imo
Im not sure if active spotting can be seperated from removing the minimap alltogether, that sounds more reasonable though.
I still think you should be able mark an enemy as spotted on the minimap though, maybe with the time its actively tracked to be more in line with view distance on that map?

Well, at least at 10 meters the tags should stay. And at a bit more when looking at someone long enough (about 25m). Because if i want to talk to someone who is not in my squad, i want to be able to do that. For example if you see some lone wolf with the only HAT kit and want to tell him to stick with a squad, thats more difficult without a name. Or if there is someone bleeding and has a limited kit and wants you to pick his kit when he dies, he would need your name.
At long distances i'm fine with it, but like i said, at short distances the tags should stay, just like faces, real name tags etc. And since we cant shout "hey, you" and point at someone if he is not in the same squad, i think names are needed, or noone would think you are talking to him. 10 Meters is a must.

This game is about learning curve, and right now I think its just about perfect as far the nametags go. No long distance tags, but don't make the map totally useless. There is a lot of communication that just is physically impossible to realistically work out in a current game engine.

I know what you're saying, but in real life (not that i've ever been in the military so correct me if i'm wrong) when you're given an objective I assume they also tell you what else to expect out there be it friendlys or hostiles.
When you join a PR game you don't have a given objective like that, and you won't always gets squads doing what they're supposed to be doing and 1 commander having to constantly update X ammount of squads is a lot of work. I just think it'll create a lot more confusion and chaos.
I know what i'm trying to say anyway, just woken up though.

Yes when you're in the army you will be briefed alongside other squads so that you all know the gameplan and what to expect.
I think that with an officers kit, an SL should be able to see all other SL's on the map (in the absence of the CO this should help get an idea where friendlies are) no one else should be visible on the map, however the bit people seemed to have missed is that if you spot a friendly, he will show up as green, not red.
No long distance tags, and I like the idea of seeing tags at 10m then 25 if you look hard enough, cos thats just like you would recognise someone normally, also, kit hoggers and vehicle whores can be seen on the stats list.
I bet theyve removed the minimap entirely for 0.7 now though

Heres for hoping, but hey I'm a purist
