Here are the last 2 US combat jumps.

19 October 2001 75th Ranger Regiment 200 Operation Enduring Freedom Afghanistan Objective Rhino at Dry Lake Airstrip C-141
26 March 2003 173rd Airborne Brigade 954 Operation Iraqi Freedom Iraq Bashur Drop zone 15 C-17 later classified as a combat jump, even though the objective was a coalition-held forward operating airfield.

neither where "combat" jumps, even though 1 was classified as combat jump, they where not jumping it to assault a positions like in PR, both where in coalition-held forward operating airfields.

The Ranger one met Taliban resistance on target. 173rd met resistance soon afterwards.

There was also a PJ Jump into a Minefield during OEF to attempt to save an Australian SAS Operator.

Also combat jumps during Panama

The idea of a squad parachuting down in PR is exciting as heck though.

In a tactical sense... if you already have infantry, armor and air assets on the field, why would you suddenly need paratroopers to jump in? To cause more confusion?

I think realistically paratroopers are mainly used to be deployed within enemy territory, bypassing the enemies' frontline and causing mass chaos for the opposing force. It's more of a strategic option than anything... it's not like a platoon is going to request paratrooper support during the middle of a firefight.

Granted, the paratrooper kits are still in the game. All that's needed is a proper map simulating an airborne operation with one faction making an initial jump. I believe one of the maps in the Russian Community Project features this.

I may not be one of the UBER 3LIT3 players but this would be a cool idea to see. Ofcourse I see this as something map specific. There is one map in FH2 where the Germans must assault a ridge of defenses that the Brits have. Having a cargo plane with men in it to land behind enemy lines would work well there and I could see it working well on maps such as "Assault on Mestia" and the one where the Chinese are dug in on like a mountain with the Brits assaulting. Something like that. Perhaps not Kashan as it would be out of place having Airborne dropping into areas where the fighting is already taking place, with no "Back-lines" if you will.

And I don't think that this is entirely impossible with the BF2 engine.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Doe5sfk7kY

There are numerous videos (ok I've only seen 2 including this one) where FH1 guys managed to get it so that you can have a bunch of guys standing inside of the plane while it is flight and not have it turn into a massive flying tombstone with everyone dead.

Like I said a very map specific idea, but one that would be nice to have (and with all of the wannabe pilots, people will think twice before getting into the plane).

I think a para map would be pretty awesome, if implemented right. Especially for tournament play, I could envision some cool, if hard to implement ideas. Even so, balance is hard to reach when one team has a mobile spawn point and the other is just taking infantry drops from behind.

I'd rather see it as more of a way to deploy Special Forces behind enemy lines in a more subtle way than chopper insertion. Not really meaning for a rifleman squad to drop in.

This isn't 0.4 anymore and this isn't Project Super-Spec Ops.

It should be left alone man I like not having parachuets. It means if I dont have them then they dont have them and this is a good thing. It keeps it even....what about Royal and USMC when they go against the Ins or Miltia? Is it fair then? But then reality is not fair....but in truth man just leave it alone........................

(just like Britney).......

Dumb statement of the thread.... Special Forces are still a big part of PR, they destroy assets and other things of the enemy to help the main force win. Now I'm questioning whether you actually play this mod....

ive just thought of something

now that the spec ops kits are now limited, mybe the Devs can give them parachutes again? then we can have quick insursions by people to support other friendlies, plus since the SL spawns are being removed there wont be any chance of dely spawning while the SL parachutes in

Why no parachutes - well to simulate having a larger "army" with the PR engine we already have people MIA from certain jobs..

Whether it is main base defenses, realistic jet arming, the realistic number of crew in a vehicle, refueling and rearming personel...

Last I have heard around the forums normal "armies" do not have paratroopers running around in engagements, it is simply either a ground force or a complete "airborne" operation ala airport map in .5

And whomever said they doubt Outlaw plays this mod... sigh... though I dislike him personally hes been around the block pleeenty of times :D

and @ project super spec ops
Its a limited kit, its supposed to be a "flanking" kit as of .7 and for destroying command assets from stealth, also I think he has the soflam for dropping JDAMs

If people want to use it in CQB fine, I'll just rip them a new one from medium range
