Well, we need good commanders... They can make a difference if they are smart. From time to time I'm doing this job and even if at start only 2 squads listen to me, after half round almost every squad do what I want. Not becouse I shout at them, but becouse I try to organize them smartly, sending backup if needed etc.

Second thing is I usually have more fun and kills when Im defending then when attacking... Untill enemy forces are really outnumbered in terms of firepower and teamwork, you will always have something to do on defended flag :)
People sometimes don't just understand sitting in one place and waiting, it can be boring, they prefer action, thats why they rush ;)

I love playing the US on Qwai. The blue-army caps fishing village, and our squad start capping temple; meanwhile the entire blue-army is swanning off to Estate, FV gets capped again, they go back, and all die, leaving us in the lurch at Temple xD

So true, Though I've found people can be easily converted.

Quite often if we're defending a flag and all goes tits up around us you'll soon have the whole enemy coming down on you, now that's action :D

People go around chasing the sound of gunfire far too much whereas the most fun is had waiting for the gunfire to come for you.

Seriously some of the BEST rounds I've had have been sat defending a single flag.
A good squad will get on all directions and call out the area they're watching "Cain on North east watching main entrance!" That way the SL can picture in his minds eye exactly how protected his flag is and direct you where you're needed (and where you'll get shot at...)

Now what? Wait! :P the best bit and also why VOIP is very useful. Talk to each other, tis what real soldiers do, get to know your squadmates, it'll pay off when the bullets start flying.

You can get quite involved whilest nattering away on the D marker then all of a sudden **BOOM!!!** "Shit RPG north side! two wounded we need a medic!!!... Support gun pin him down fast, OPEN FIRE NOW!! FIRE FIRE FIRE!!!!!"

"squadleader they're pushing around south my side!!"

"Copy that Bolster up on the south side hostile movement, go go gooo!!!!!!"

When you've been sat waiting for 10 minutes and then an enemy attack announces its arrival it can get seriously intense :P

I'll always remember leading a TACTEAM squad a week ago on Jabal, and we were the MEC, waiting inside a room in the dam for another flag to be capped before we had clearence to assault Dam.

We were covering all entrances to this room, and our support gunner sounded about 13, and was all "Let's go out and kill! This is boring!", I laid it out to him that "We can either wait here 10 minutes and then go capture a flag, or we can go rush an uncapturable flag and die in the process, wiping out any element of surprise, and the time it took for us to stealth in here."

He shut up after that.

Unless you have a vocal and competent commander, squads act independently. Squads will defend if they can see overall organisation in place. Even squads with good leaders and teamplayers will act like the zerg if nobody is directing them in a coherent manner.

Commander is the hardest role in PR at the moment and the few guys who step up to the job deserve a lot of praise....

its more fun hunting the enemy down and killing them than waiting for them to come while everyone else goes on ahead.

sad but true

In general people playing this modification does not understand the area of defence. Thus when not skilled in this area, they attack.

Imagine you got two books in front of you right now, one in a langue you can read and one in a langue you cant read.

The book you can’t read will be pretty GD boring to read, wont it.

Thus people attack.

the squads dont see what a commander orders the sls.
when i play commander i dont just tell the sls what to do but i type it in capital letters so everyone can see what i order and wich squad disobbey the orders.
for example jabal al bury map.
i tell sl 2 to defend dam and give him the defense marker.
same time i type : SQ 2 DEFEND DAM OTHER SQUADS WILL PROCEED TO NEXT OBJECTIVE
if they dont follow my order and move away all team knows who is responsible when we loose dam.
thats what im doing with all squads cause sometimes the sls are not so smart or experienced and cant understand some movements, but they may have squadmembers who will understand and explain it to their sls.
the ppl who say the commanders are bad dont understand and dont see what commanders order to sls and when the sls simple dont follow the orders.
thats why i allways type it for the whole team what i have ordered to any squad. therefore they cannot start arguing with me if most of squads dont follow commander orders.
after doing this for some minutes most of squads will understand that its vital to do exactly what i order .
of course there can be sometime a bad commander who orders stupid things but if u play sl u have to follow the orders or start a mutinity against him.
dont say bad commander only cause u dont understand any order.
its like in real life follow them and after the match u see if the orders where really stupid or really smart tactics .

'What?! I have to go for up to a full minute without killing something?!'

For some reason I find that people think waiting around and defending a location for more than 5 minutes without any enemy action is boring. Never mind that the moment you leave after 7 minutes the enemy shows up right behind you and takes it.

I have often told me squad to wait in the trees or on the other side of a hill while I scout out the flag and watch a squad grow bored and leave. Then we simply move in and take the place without opposition.

Patience as much as Skill is needed in PR. The one with the most patience can often win without many loses. The Rambo types make it easier for people like me to conduct strategy. Easy to read and easy to anticipate.

(i'm not reading the whole post.. just responding to..)

Why does no one want to defend!?

"Peaceful warriors have the patience to wait until the mud settles and the water clears. They remain unmoving until the right time, so the right action arises by itself. They do not seek fulfillment, but wait with open arms to welcome all things." Dan Millman

Unfortunatly most gamers have no patience, they just like to run around like headless chickens looking to get killed.

Pretty null analogy there Mike, defense may require different tactics, but at the end of the day it's just the same as attacking, except not moving. The basic premise is the same; "Shoot stuff" :P

I am doing the same thing. I have noticed that on a lot of maps you only need 1 (+ main) flag to win a game by tickets. I just make sure I have some medics around and we can hold the dubble our size of infantary.

If there is no commander as it’s not that attractive teams struggle

Thing is the commander position when I’ve gone commander basically as no one else wants to the squads respond better, they can see there might be a plan for example sending squad three on the attack while squad one moves into a holding position besides the flag and squad two back up to squad three.

At times there are too many flags.

If there is no commander as it’s not that attractive teams struggle to defend. If there was a few more options added to the commander then more might play.

As commander you’re more or less blind, Get the J-dam ( looks great does little) once if your lucky if anyone else knows how to ask for it.

I’d think adding commander abilities would help.

I’d love to be able to talk - ask just one member in a squad were to go, right now it’s the whole squad that get the message. I know its a squad leaders job.

Wish we could order in artillery blind that was not too accurate.
Wish we could order in large smoke screens just once or twice.
I’d like a field hospital tent were you can get patched up.
What ever happened to the air drop.
A cluster bomb as well.

But don’t give them right away to the commander make sure they server there time! First.

Have to say best server right noe is that Tactics & Teamwork one if you can get on...

Had a moment like this on Quinling 32 player.
My team(Chinese) capped Village and Mine.My squad had an APC waiting so we loaded up and went off to attack Farm.
The entire team decided to follow and we ended up losing Village and Mine.In the end we recapped Mine and JDAM'd Village :)
