ye, its kinda silly to run upto it ingame or in r/l cos ehh, if any one is watching it with a remote detonator, if they see you trying to defuse it they will blow it. and if no one is watching it then its no threatDr2B Rudd wrote:What is SOP when an IED is found IRL? cuz i doubt any ol joe will run over and try and defuse it- especially not by whacking it with a shovel![]()

Re: Cannon rounds and IEDs
Theres a reasonable chance of hiding it, if you think of all the roads leading from the airport to the city then thats alot of potential areas to ambush. It just needs to be made so you cant drive along firing at the side of the road setting them off like fireworks.
I think there is a system that disrupts radio frequencies as far as IED goes but I dont see how that'd be done in game
35 x 7.62 to disarm. Even plastic explosives would have the electrics chewed up by that
Route Clearing In Iraq
Marines get bored in Iraq. I.E.D. Hunter.

Re: Cannon rounds and IEDs
I don't think anyone would want to go defuse an IED on foot IRL.
This is what happens when you are stupid enough to go stand right next to it.

Re: Cannon rounds and IEDs
IMHO the first step is to make IEDs have a more powerfull looking explosion too them then they have now. Right now it's like the biggest hadn grenade ever going off. But in real life there is a small mushroom cloud that forums from most IEDs, and weapon caches should have a cloud at least half the size of the JDAMs effect. I know it may cause low end PCs to drop FPS a bit, but it's more realistic then what we have now and it would make all the gamers a big more carful when shooting up a IED, or setting one off.jayceon515 wrote:I don't think anyone would want to go defuse an IED on foot IRL.

It would also make a weapons cache have more then just a symbol on the map, the insurgents would know right where the enemy hit and be able to respond as they often do in real life.

Re: Cannon rounds and IEDs
OP here. No additional posts because I didn't have much to add. Now I do. I wanted to comment on gunwings post. First of all, damage is somewhat irrelevant because this discussion is about SOP for infantry not equipped to do EOD. Regardless I want to corroborate you. The explosion should be larger or the damage done should be smaller.
Both of my sources said that an uparmored humvee would survive 155mm IED blast from the side, but probably not if it came from directly underneath the humvee. Do a google video search for 155 IED. They are very large explosions, but definitely not as large as gunwing suggests. Now I realize the IEDs are not cannon shells, but they are vehicle killers that deal enough damage that the visuals should be proportionate.

Re: Cannon rounds and IEDs
IMO, with regards to the precedure of approaching IEDs, only an engineer should do it. And only an engineer should be qualified to do it. I too heard of a device that disrupts IED radio waves
(shame on you americans, for disclosing military secret information to the public...especially irish guys who loved to make explosives in his childhood... ¬¬ ...*ahem*...)
So the precedure should be this. change wrench to explosives disarming kit. IEDs remain 20 minutes after the deployer dies, the insurgents get NO retrieval kit for them, but the British and american engineers do.
I know you would wait for a bomb disposal robot, but we dont have one of those, so an engi would have to do, wouldnt it. unless rhino wants to make a robot, which would probibly require AI and skrew up the gameplay a bit as well.

Re: Cannon rounds and IEDs
That kinda brings us back to what Rhino said. If an insurgent is watching the IED, it will go boom in the engineers face. If the insurgent isn't watching it, it's not a current threat.
