Cannon rounds and IEDs

Post by Teonanacatl »

I was at a party this weekend with two guys that got back from Iraq not long ago. My good buddy was a convoy commander in the Army Reserve and this guy I just met was a Marine Infantry Squad Leader. Both of them had stories of calling for CSA from F15s during convoy runs. The F15s would strafe the sides and shoulders of the road attempting to destroy IEDs on roads well known for IEDs.

So I am just curious if the IEDs in game are destroyable? Maybe the BF2 engine wouldn't allow weapons to prematurely explode.

Better yet, create an engineering vehicle with a miclic launcher.

Chapter III: Growth of U.S. Armored Forces in Vietnam

The OP idea sounds easier to implement though, one of the bf2 patches had mines you could detonate with grenades

Theres a vid that depicts the unstableness of ieds on a website that is not suitable for younger members so i wont be posting it. But it shows a cobra gunship's TV and their radio chatter. 6 insurgents in the middle of a road digging out an IED with the mussles of their AKs. (LOL) And after about a minute of the gunner verbalising how humorous it was, the thing explodes and vaporises the group in an instant with a large dust clowd that quickly vanishes and shows a crater about the size of a jacuzzi. so even if you touch them they blow up. engineers should have their wrench replaced with an explosive disposal kit and if anyone even knifes or uses a spade on them they should explode with a 10 meter kill radius.

If the knife was replaced, how would they capture civilians?

i think all C4, mines and IED's should be destroyable, maybe not with small arms or grenades but certainly slams and c4, missiles, tank shells, apc cannons ect, lets be honest if any of these things were hit with these guns in RL they would go down

so is it possible?

Good suggestion. I'm all for having destroyable IED's.

It is we had it in PR.4 it was great but was abuesed badly. IMHO because all weapons could take them out in one shot.

IMHO If we do implement it it has to be done the right way. SNiper rounds, and 50.cals should only have a 12% chance of setting the mines, or C4 off. IE random like it is in real life. But when a Mine dose go off in real life "IE Anti-Tank Mines in particular" They don't have this dinky tiny explosion we see in BF2. They have a vary tall ploom of fire and smoke that shoots out from the mine and rips through the tanks hull to kill the crew inside.

IT the bloom is about has high and black as the JDAM effect we have in PR right now only it has like half the killzone effect, and should make men cought near by bleed out if they don't get bandage or 2 quickly.

Would actually depend on the IED(maybe), c4 not destructable cause its plastic exp fired with electricity(not sure ???) so not destructable by bullets and whatnot......

And ied's are not easly dest. in real life cause u have to find them first, and even that is a pain in the back

would be the same ingame, the IED model is really small, and can easily be hidden well at the side of a road etc, you will be lucky to see a well hid one. Some nubs just chuck them in the middle of the road and you can see a big black lump there and you know its a IED :p

There should also be a small chance of detonation with using a shovel, so you can go in and try to disarm it quietly if noone is looking.

Also, you should be able to place as many as you want, but only one at a time can exist, the others will just disappear.
I think IED's it would very likley to blow if u shoot them...

With the showel maybe 50:50 chance and with the wrench completly gone...

What is SOP when an IED is found IRL? cuz i doubt any ol joe will run over and try and defuse it- especially not by whacking it with a shovel
