System specs:
CPU: Q6600 (2.4 ghz quad core, no overclockage)
MOBO: Elitegroup P965T-A
RAM: 2GM DDR2
GFX: nVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS
HDD: 153 GB (6.7 unused)
OS: Win XP
start the game, alt-tab out, go into task manager, right click on bf2 and set your cpu usage to 1st processor (uncheck 2-4), set affinity also to high.
i have almost the same setup (8800 gt not gts, 6600 cpu) and that works for me, i have to do it everytime i play but always works.
i have vista but was having the exact same problem.
lemme know if it works.

Re: Freeze with stuttering sound
My freezing completely disappeared after:
1. Increasing GPU fan level -> lower temperature (freezing with graphical glitch)
2. Raising north bridge voltage level on overclocked mother board (freezing without graphical glitch)
These problems were kind of result of same reason as north bridge cooler was heating GPU fan intake.
So I advise everyone having freezing to check your hardware system if you got any weak links.
