I actually have a problem with this.. even with DRIVING SIMULATORS....

What he's wanting is that for things like the Huey and Apache, it's zoomed out a bit..

it would be REALLY helpful for people with bigger screens, as they would be able to see more as they're coming... kind of like that "Oh i see something out of the corner of my eye" kinda thing...

The zoomed up view is exactly that... a zoomed up view...

maybe you could give a zoomed up view.. aka the one we already have, and maybe a zoomed out view for people who just want to see a little more.. but the price to pay would to make them smaller.

I wouldn't be complaining probably if i had 3 screens XD

(ps: The pictures he shows reminds me of what i see when i'm driving down the ghetto in town XD I get freaked out and drive like the little white/hispanic child i am.. all close to the wheel and freaked out and stuff XD)

do you mean...have a zoom greater than it allready is? or do you mean, a wider Field of vision? or have some way of an optional level of zoom...or what? I dont have any problems with the current way (apart from when you ctrl+mouse around in a helicopter and you loose balance)

when i think about it a little more, while in the driving seat you could have your second mouse button zoom in a little, but humans dont have telescopic vision, so i fail to see the realism in this idea, but it would be helpful for looking at objects and players when they are all pixely :D

Well you see the thing about this is well putting it technically YOU HAVE NO PERIPHERAL VISION LOOKING THROUGH A 17" SQUARE WINDOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take a piece of card and cut it out against your monitor, Sit in your car and place your cardboard "monitor" as far away in front of you as your PC screen is which should be 2-3 feet... Absorb what you see

now try out "free look" and move your cardboard window around (if it makes it feel better pretend you're pressing ctrl)

I have free look assigned to my middle scroll button (mouse 3) and it's so natural to just press it whenever my eyes flicker around the screen so you can get some of that movement back

Oh and use free look when in PR in any vehicle with a passenger and look dead left/right, you aren't stuck foreward at all you're sat back in the seat at the same normal level, Usless you believe the vehicle scales to be wrong (we know that the'yre all off scale but the dimensions should be to scale right?)

Now shhhhhhh

....

but what about a 52" rectangular Sony 1080p HDTV with DVIToHDMI?

o.o XD it's to simulate Peripheral vision...

so like..

you have the zoomed/Cropped view, which allows for a scaled vision of what it would be like if we had monitors for eyes..

and then a zoomed out version/wideversion for seeing a little bit wider... but not that much... just enough to be able to see another person..

(btw i have a 15" and i hate it... so i drag my computer over to my friends house and play PR on his t.v. XD)

You can look with the mouse right? I always just move the mouse as I drive, its not too terribly hard.. you dont even have to press ctrl if i remember correctly...

What's so hard to understand?

His gripe is that when driving things like jeeps, the camera is set so it's right up on the steering wheel. I too would prefer the camera to be set at eye level, not eye level of an elderly woman bent over the wheel for support. I'm not sure how it applies to cockpits, since I've never been in one.

It still stands though, with ANY monitor based game, until we come out with non resolution based monitors, you will not be able to zoom out without loss of visual clarity. Sure you can see MORE, but what youll see more of is small dots. What was once recognizable as a soldier with an rpg is now going to be one black pixel and 2 brown pixels.

Of course thats an extreme case, but this is the same issue ArmA faced, though it faced it even more so due to much longer engagement distances. A balance needs to be found, and I honestly dont mind the one we have found/stuck with.

If you want to go in and change every vehicles position and it gets more praise than the current version, the DEV's might take you up on it. But tbh, I dont think a large large portion of players feel we are in dire need of this alteration.

In any case, whether some agree or not, imho, its a bit much to ask the DEV team to do it ;)

I don't think its a very big deal.

I don't suppose you could raise the camera height a little bit while keeping the same zoom level. That would probably look even odder though, heh.

Hit the nail on the 'ed. I don't think people get the point of this thread: he wants the view to be from a realistic position (further back in the seat), not have greater detail in the cockpit or wider field-of-vision. Whilst I would also agree with this, like Makoto I have played ArmA and would say that it's a bad idea because eventually an even more unrealistic zoom feature would have to be put in to actually see what's ahead!

Some of the driver positions do feel a little off.

The only 2 views that bug me are Humvee driver (hate that damn, dirty windshield :o ) and the tank commander view when part of the turret and the hatch completely block my sight when the turret spins around :? ??:

I don't think he is asking for zoom, he's just asking to put the camera of the driver slightly more backwards and up.
I agree with Antonius, right now it looks like an elderly woman desperately hanging on to the wheel :)

Are you guys who are saying the driving position - I have no idea about the pilots views, I'm sure most of you don't either - is wrong all Ferrari owners or something? I regard what's in game as a proper driving position, when taken into account what Okita has said about perspective through monitors, you can just about see the top of the wheel and your focus is on where your going, not how many revs your doing which wouldn't even be displayed anyway.

For the lucky guys with the ridiculous monitors, I'm sure there are patches/cracks/hacks or whatever to increase above the usual 1280xwhatever it is cap on resolutions in BF2.
