Remember, that's 800 meters against an area target; i.e., enemy infantry units in the open or partially exposed. Against a point target, a single enemy, 500-600 meters is more likely.

Yeah, on another website, it said the M16A2's MER was 550m

True, but the M16 has more than twice the range of the AK, so my point stands.

It was standard in my bn. All our designated marksmen had them. And the squad leaders could have them if they wanted.

^ exactly. Area targets are more for weapons like the SAW, 240, M203, etc. Those are area weapons. Your not just going for one spot per say, but a large area. A point target weapon is more like a sniper rifle, to dumb it down a bit.

If your going to put an optic on a machine gun, go with the MGO. It's an area weapon sight. It's not designed to be used on an assault rifle.

I've never had a jam on my weapon. Well, once when the extractor was messed up.

you use an m-4, correct? different gun.

"A US serviceman cleans his rifle every day so that when he goes into combat, he can be sure that it will perform its duty. A Russian serviceman cleans his rifle once a month to keep his quartermaster happy."-love that quote

BTW i'm not bashing the m-16. i love it. it is accurate and feels very comfortable in one's hands. The reliability is nowhere close to that of an AK, though.

It has the same direct gas system and jams just as often as the M16. However with propper and regular cleaning the AR-15 is not to unreliable.

EDIT: Random jams would be really cool!

Honestly I'm open to any kind of optical sight on Assault rifles. Befeore I started playing PR I was using the L85A1 as Medic alot, it just feels weird playing medic without a sight now lol

Well, and since everybody who are all in for MEC talks about a conflict 5-10 years out in the future, I guess the marine corps have had the time to give every single rifleman some kind of optical sight, be it an ACOG, aimpoint or similar device. I guess we would even see a completely different loadout within that timeframe... :)
