I suspect that with the new aircraft are getting more agile that useing guns in air to air combat would be too difficult.

Yeh, I think we heard that in Vietnam from America with their F4. Prior to retrofit gunpods the F4 could barely kill anything in the sky, afterwards it was the best fighter in the war. (Though some could argue the Mig-21 was better).

What about including MLRS into the mod? Take away the incredibly inaccurate artillery and replace it with Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) that could be called in by squad leaders onto the same things you would call a bomber to come in and bomb. Or would this make it incredibly one-sided and no fun?

Speaking of the MLRS, I personally wouldn't mind if it just stayed stationary near the main base in the way that the current artillery does and the rocket system mounted on the vehicle would merely rotate to aim in the direction that it's going to fire. I only suggested that it be unable to move because it really shouldn't be directly on the front lines, should it?

at the range that thing normally fire, and the fact that it's survivability is close to zero with all these choppers and fighters zipping around mere hundred metres from it's position? yep... it's not supposed to be there at all.

Hey, how about the solve that problem is something like a radar-guided missile system around the main bases? They would be automatic, lock on to any enemy aircraft, and fire. The enemy pilots would get the same "enemy missle locked-on" warning, and they could deploy flares and get away. I know I've heard about something like this used in the Gulf War or OIF, but I can't remember.

And if the enemy gets some kind of missle system, our commander could receive notification that enemy missles are inbound and could try and launch counter-measures i.e. Patriot or something of the sort. That might be stretching it a little bit but it sure would be cool!
