Re: Signal Flares
I don't really see that problem, what else is the coloured smoke nade for anyway other then signalling? Just needs to go alot higher and take less time to deploy, no need for it to spread out either obviously. The green smoke is useless, and I only ever see it get used when an officer runs out of grey smoke and all it does is the same thing but screams "kill me first" at the enemy.
I use them occasionally for signalling but just for a laugh when my squad will be easily seen anyway, not when I actually need spotting cos they're ****ing useless for that purpose at the moment.

Yeah, I hate putting a sign on my back saying kill me!!!!
A flare would just say hello! and then its gone, yes they know your in that direction but you wont have a big green smoke blob saying RIGHT HERE!!!!!!!

Re: Signal Flares
hmm, for the slot, i guess you could replace one of the two smokes that the squad leader has.
i think that it would be nice to have a flare that reacts differently than the smokes. instead of a cloud, its a steady stream of smoke going straight up.
would also be nice if this showed up as a laze, or as the kind of thing that a friendly aircraft has when you look at it with the AA (the circle with the x inside that you can't look onto)
might be an effective way to mark friendly troops on the field when you need CAS very close to your own position.
just ask all SLs in the area to pop flares and the air support can avoid friendly fire.

Re: Signal Flares
You can possible make it hang in the air.cplgangster wrote:also what if the pilot for what ever reason happens to miss the flare because they are looking the wrong way or are just out of range to see it properly. At least with the smoke it does stay there for a while and it can go if you get the chopper close enough to it it kinda disperses a bit.
Like flares now. just like a heli flare. just shoot straight up and itll go down slowlyz
Itll be very usefull for crate dropping in muttrah. you can drop a crate from rooftop height and have it survive the fall.

Thats how signal smoke should be.mat552 wrote:I would much rather have the signal smoke that the officers used to have. It went in a cone upwards, rather than a huge plume in all directions.

Re: Signal Flares
Instead of throwing a smoke, I order someone to put down a trip flare and use that instead.
It doesn't have the vibrant colours of the smoke, and it shoots a small smoke trail into the sky, letting helicopters see where I want the supply boxes to be dropped.

Re: Signal Flares
Cool idea, but if you request a chopper and you don't have 5-10 seconds to let the smoke appear and you want it to be replaced with a flare which will only appear for like 1 second is useless. Just my opinion if you have a chopper coming near you and you pop a flare he will probably wont have enough time to slow down and land he probably will have to turn around but that depends on how far the chopper is and when you pop the flare.
I say just keep the 2 smoke =\

Re: Signal Flares
signal flares are an awesome idea because farrr too often you need an instant method of conveying a position of friendlies/enemies to other units (be they armoured or air...)
The major problem with smoke is the fact it takes a frigging long time to build up AND most importantly, if you release a smoke before an air vehicle is within view distance then the smoke will not draw for the pilot of said vehicle.
Release the smoke whilest the air support is within view distance and by the time its built up enough to be visible your air support has flown to china.
Imo a parachute flare would be best so it'll float for a while and be of use but anyway in short +1 for this idea

Well, in lieu of it being implemented... you can always use a rifleman specialist in the squad, have him deploy a flare near the SL, then trip it when the pilot is in view.'[R-COM wrote:Sadist_Cain;1111709']signal flares are an awesome idea because farrr too often you need an instant method of conveying a position of friendlies/enemies to other units (be they armoured or air...)

Overall, I think it's a good idea, just not sure how well it would work with some of the already limited equipment (maybe take out 'signal' smoke and replace it? take away officer's incendiary?)... putting it in without taking out something that is useful in it's own right seems like unlikely.

Re: Signal Flares
Would be good, except it would be hard to use for airstrikes..
I'm assuming you mean a flaregun, not a trip flare.. btw.
I would love to see a flaregun in PR :3

Re: Signal Flares
we could make it a flare gun like in the orriginal BLOOD games. You can shot it at people too and it sticks to them

Re: Signal Flares
the best scenario for flares would be if only the commander was able to see the green dots on the map, everyone else just has a blank open space.
remember that SLs can have Reinforcements, APC AND Helicopter markers at their whim so the map would hardly be useless.
It'd be sweet for the flare to be engineered in as part of a bigger picture in order to be genuinly useful and not just a toy. Choppers still have a marker on map, but a flare to guide into a good LZ would be nice too... ideally...
