Right got the MS Sidewinder x8 and it arrived this morning. First impressions are pretty good, nice size, good feel thou no where for the little finger to really go, has to be dragged along side the mouse, scroll wheel is really nice, when ever playing games with leaning could possibly see it coming in useful thou not quite sure yet how I'm going to lean with the wheel and fire at the same time yet. Can't see myself really using the mouse much without its recharging cable, think 90% of the time I'm going to have it in but will try it when its fully charged and I'm gaming with it to see how it feels without the cable. Also the material on it is really nice, very close to the rubber plastic stuff you find on Saitek products that I really love and one of the big reasons I mainly get Saitek stuff (just had enough of there scroll wheels and odd buttons braking...)
My only huge grip about this mouse so far is that it has no dedicated push to talk button
All its main buttons you can program are needed in windows for something and if you set one of them up to be a 100% dedicated ptt button, you loose that ability to say go back in web pages. I was hoping the button in front of the back and forwards button would do the job of a ptt button but that button turns out is for only making macros on the fly and you can't program it to do anything else...
What I've had to do is setup my back button to be my PTT button, but only making it my PTT button when I'm either in mumble or BF2, in fact need to add all my other games to it too... Dunno how well this is going to work yet but I can see it being a pain in the *** when it comes to meetings etc when I'm browsing on the forums or something at the same time and having to talk on mumble....
But other than that, good impressions overall so fast, the dpi switch buttons look like they are in a nice place too
Will add to this after a weeks or so play with it

Good review thanks was looking at that one myself.
Try using the enter key on the num pad. When you want to talk just extend your thumb and press enter and still able to move the mouse to look about. I only use that one for mumble. For TS/Vent I use F and remap select ammo type when in a APC/Tank etc to Z. The change weapon key default F is cleared in all other control settings as i use the mouse wheel or mouse shortcut keys to switch weapons.

Right I know some people are quite interested in this mouse and what my thoughts on it are so going to add to my earlier points.
had this mouse for well over a week now and pretty much used all aspects of it now in lots of different scenarios. Overall I still really like the mouse and think it was worth the money thou again, a few small things I'm not quite happy about.
The problem with no dedicated PTT (push to talk) button on the mouse hasn't been too much of a problem. With the profile software that came with the mouse I have been able to quite effectively set up my "back" button used for going back a page in your browser etc to be my mumble speak key, and then the button above that my "number 3" key for switching to my pri weapon in PR. Thou this only applies when I have the "BF2.exe" running as my active program (so if I'm alt tabbed and on anouther program it goes back to the default stuff). This is pretty good and works well but dose have it's little problems when you get out of game etc, still would much prefer 1 or 2 more buttons on the mouse
my main thing I have come to dislike about this mouse is it's middle mouse button. The mouse wheel itself I love, and the titling of it is kinda cool but not been able to use that for much more than just browsing (you can scroll left and right with the tilt on the wheel) but when it comes to modelling, mainly 2D modelling on your top, side or front views the middle mouse button becomes some what of a problem for me, since I do a lot of panning in these views and to pan you need to press and hold down the MMB, which for some reason I aint fully worked out is a bit of a problem when modelling since for some reason when you push it it dosen't always recognise, and its pretty hard to push down (compared to other mouse MMB's I've used). I might just need to get use to the new MMB some more, I aint done much "2D" modelling recently since lods and cols which I've been mainly working on are mainly doing most of the work in the 3D view port. Hopefully I'll get use to it or I'll find a way round it since right now its really starting to annoy me since it means I spend x2 as long as I use to in my 2D views
I forgot what they call it but the accelerated scrolling is kinda cool, doesn't work on everything (thank god) but for web page browsing its really nice to be able to shift though a page with a really fast scroll (but hardly turning the wheel, all down to the speed you turn it), and then only a few lines with a slow turn of the wheel. This would be really bad if it worked ingame since if you where scrolling though weapons it would be kinda annoying, but for PR/BF2 at least it dont. Thou when playing Supreme Commander, I found this accelerated scroll was on in there and was kinda annoying since you do most of your viewing with scrolling in and out and just found myself scrolling in/out way more than I wanted. Didn't have a chance to get use to it thou before supcom crashed my entire system (as it dose... hope to god they have it fixed for supcom2).
the DPI changing buttons are pretty good, pretty well placed thou sometimes when I go to grab my mouse quickly I do find myself hitting one of the buttons by mistake then having to correct the DPI change but not a big deal.
For the last 5 or so days I've been testing out how long the battery in this would last and pretty sure its more than 30hrs as stated on the box. Most nights I have been turning the mouse off but still found it to last 5 or so days. The really nice thing is it only takes like 2 or 3hrs to fully charge the barrery up, and it also uses a standard NiMH AA rechargeable battery which I'm pretty sure you could easily find a replacement for it if you wanted to have 2 fully charged barriers to play with on the go without having to do any "recharging while gaming" thou tbh I find the recharge cable fine, using it at the mo and the mouse feels pretty much the same as just wireless, thou the wireless feature is nice and seen no "lag" from moving the mouse etc.
Few other things I could go on about like the replaceable feet etc but overall, the mouse is really nice and would recommend it, thou if your a modeller and do a lot of panning with the MMB you might want to reconsider

I have (HAD) the Logitech MX518 Optical Gaming Mouse. I say "had" because it just died, along with my tricked out keyboard and brand new NR headset. Something on my USB ports shorted out and fried everything connected to them.
I bought that mouse what, maybe 4 years ago. And it has been working great since Day 1. The buttons have a smooth click to them, with just the perfect amount of pressure needed. You don't accidentally click something, yet you don't need to mash the buttons to click them either. The scroll is very smooth, and the additional buttons make gaming so much easier. Not to mention the on-the-fly sensitivity adjustment made possible by the additional buttons above and below the scroll wheel.
The mouse is on the pricey side, around $50 if ordered directly from Logitech and usually $5-$8 cheaper from other stores. Because mine is so far out of warranty, I called tech support to see if I could just pay to have it repaired (cheaper than buying a new one). They said they don't do any repairs, but they offered me a new one at half price. So on my next paycheck I'm able to spend only $25 for one of the best mice on the market, not a bad deal.
I haven't really tried the others, and I'm not biased towards Logitech. But I would highly recommend the MX518.

I have had my MX518 for about a year and half now and it works perfectly still.

Well my input:
I got a G9 (hard wired ofc) about 6 months ago:
Good:
tray for weights as much or s little as you want
two bodies for sausage and normal fingers
two side buttons plus the wheel goes left and right (Mumble local and FC/TS/VOIP)
Variable resolution on mouse controls with LEDs - great in armour to put up resolution to move turrets quicker, also as inf allows you to look round quick, but when aiming at distance switch down the dpi to get the accuracy.
Bad:
Price €70 amazon.fr
Logitech support: I use it on a laptop - after a while the side buttons stopped working, no assistance available, found I had to plug it in (USB) BEFORE switching on the machine and its been OK ever since.
Overall I am happy now I've forgotton how much it cost, though like rhino I would like one or two more buttons.

ugh! my logitech mx518 is dying.
it stops working for a second like every few minutes. very frustrating, especially when gaming.
i just don't like the sidewinder x8 and the logitech g9. they all look like they're designed from knight rider ;\
i don't really like razer aesthetics either. feels a bit over the top.
i kinda would like the logitech mx revolution or mx performance, but wireless, man. i dunno if i approve, because i KNOW the batteries will die permanently sooner or later (and it's always sooner) and i don't really trust wireless tracking. i wish those mice had cords.
the logitech g500 looks cool. kind of an improved version of the g5. anyone had any experience with the g500?

Nope, I have G5, had MX518 before, can't say it's really a big improvement. Buttons are sligtly better, wheel goes left and right but anyone that owns and likes 518 should keep it imo. The cord on G5 is so tough that it can infuence mouse movement in a negative way. I'm not saying G5 isn't better than mx518, they seem to be more or less equal to me while 518 is cheaper.

Mad Mike, I have no weights and the smaller/original cover which is kind of strange as I have very big hands...the Dpi change is so good, when tanking I up the resolution to turn the turret a bit quicker.
Just leave it plugged in when switching on your PC, when I plug in after powering up the side buttons don't work.

logitech pilot mouse, with just three buttons and ball to track movement was the bestest everesteste.
I guess back in the -95-2000 era resolution were so small that mice worked perfectly. Tuned up the ps/2 port hz rate into 200 and it was the perfection. Could shoot the wings off the flies with that.
