the name of the thread made me lawl.

have you ever played as a civilian on insurgency? you can be standing in the middle of the road with your hands in the air and people will still shoot you. of course PR players are trigger happy.

as for your RoE thing, i was with a squad once on Korengal. SL told us not to fire unless fired upon. we ninjad our way throught the entire round and took out 8 of the 10 caches.

Rules of engagement rest solely on the squad leader. I've played under several mature gentlemen who knew exactly how they wanted their squad members to perform. Get a visual, report contact, confirm it's in fact an enemy contact, engage if instructed too, hold fire if not. It did wonders to our score.

The problem are those squad leaders who tell their squad members what kits to take, general plan for the map and that's pretty much it. The rest is up to the squad member. Score was decent but nowhere near the scores I've had under those "lead, follow, or get out of the way..." type of squad leaders.

I don't really like Squad Leading. I prefer to follow orders.

If I have a possible visual on an enemy or a enemy squad, I will warn the SL and wait for him/her to confirm.

If it's blatently an enemy and have a clear visual, I will engage, obviously warning my squad/SL first also.

I always believe that shooting too early can be as bad as shooting too late. Especially if you have the element of suprise, you can use the opportunity to lure entire squads into a sweeping field of fire or just the open space if you do it right.

However I have been on the recieving end of a blue-on-blue and it's annoying, but what can you do about it? Being trigger-happy goes both ways. I doubt theres one PR-Player on the earth that hasn't shot a friendly in-game before.

those three settings are a good guideline.
i usually go by returning fire only in most situations. if someone spots something, i expect SMs to tell me and ask if they can take a shot. then i try to bring more than 1 gun to bear and take em out when we are good and ready.

fire all the time i only use when the enemy already knows where we are and we are in a firefight.

Wookie it seems your getting to the key factor of squad leading.

Its a game objective to bring enemy tickets to zero.

Nullifing their spawns or fobs is one thing, but to find the source of where their spawning and gaining knowledge of the route they will use is another.

Good judgement whether to take out their rally/ fob if its to close to your objective is important, but its also good to know where they are and use it to your advantage.

Spawncamping is a no no, but camping their routes to your objectives/ objectives in play can seriously damage their ticket ratio and give your squad the edge.

In public servers its hard to keep a squad under control but playing regularly with a few you get to know is good becuase youll all grow to learn a style.

I can see something potentially wrong with that. One stupid newb fires, the rest of the squad thinks it's you firing, and everyone opens up. How has that been working out for you (that specific command, I mean)?

I think i was the heli pilot.
Anyway I give those 3 states and sometimes a 4th one which is Run! Because its all well and good given fire and giving cover or suppressing fire but not if you are being centered in on.
PR and War is a very active and moving game and if you are not covered 360 degrees then firing for any longer than 2 minutes on a target guarantees enemy closing in on your situation.
So
Fire at Will
Fire on Order
Fire in Danger

But remember that every area is dangerous on the battlefield and suppressing a area is useless if you are not covered form behind.
