That would seem complicated, if there is no admin or if the griefer is on the other side of the map by the time the name tag comes on etc.

Name tags should really just be left alone, they have a delay before they come on. Its really the best system atm for the current engine.

usually if I'm in a hostile area I check my map to note where friendlies are. "No friendlies in the area. Shoot at anything that moves."

When your in close proximity to other players i think the tags are important for a squad. It makes it easier for squad leaders to position troops, for squad members to call out targets using themselves as a reference point, for squads to move as units (especially when a round begins and main looks like a clone army), for the medic to be able to locate who called for a patch up etc.... The tags essentially simulate recognition since in real life you'd be able to recognize your squadmates at a glance.

This came to my mind after playing with my flight simulator. When the settings were on Realistic, all labels were removed, and it really made you think twice before engaging something on your radar screen.

What is your opinnion on nametags. Do you think that its way too realistic for PR, or do you belive most players would be able to think twice before shooting? Elaborate why...
IRl you recognize your fellow soldiers in game you need to handle random guys. Also what flight simulator are you playing with ?

Personally We all should be more careful.
I think it would have to be announced otherwise noobs even ones that have been playing for ages wont know the difference.

I think nametags should be only about 15 metres or so, It doesn't have to be for realism purposes as irl you probably could tell who's who at that distance, but I think for gameplay purposes it would be a great addition. It would increase awareness and possbile coordination by a whole lot.

Individuals have their own mannerisms and body language that allow one to identify those who they are familiar with well outside the range of facial recognition.

SLs I play with often pair off squad members -- ID'ing your buddy when half of the squad looks identical would be a pain.
If you're using mumble, it would be stupid to have to ask "Where are you buddy?" rather than being able to visually identify them.

Tags allow players to visually identify their specific comrades -- there is currently no substitute for it.

Why not just add in a system that pops up their name when you look at/near to them? so it doesn't clutter up the screen and you can get the info you want of who is who when you need it?

It would screw up pick-up-and-play matches over royally. I don't have time to waste memorizing constantly changing squad names while on the move! It's a nice Idea, but would have bad reprocussions

The Forgotten Hope 2 Name tags only show up pretty much when you look directly at the person, i think PR should have a look that their code and set up something similar.

I think so too. Even though it is sweet that i can see people through walls and know who they are ages away its a bit unrealistic.
Tags should be near and when you look at it not all the time and through walls.
