I'm going to go out on a limb and say that MAYBE if PR2 made the DEV's enough money, just MAYBE they could purchase a license for a huge very advanced engine.

The engine is still being worked on, there's more recent screen shots out there if you look for them.SarafanPriest wrote:I looked at few screens from C4 engine and it looks quite dated if you ask me :S
I doubt it is free, just more affordable.CrustyDoom wrote:It sounds like they're only using c4 because it's free.

Not true. If you want to sell a game on the engine you have to pay.
Besides the creators of the successful Desert Combat mod used the Unreal engine to make a standalone game called Frontlines, it had numerous issues and lacked many features that BF2 has. It now has virtually no online community today.
CrustyDoom wrote:The only thing that makes C4 look better than BF2's engine is the lighting.
You're judging an incomplete game engine, it could have far better graphics by the time PR2 is even in full swing.
CrustyDoom wrote:I'm not sure why BSS won't go with the more advanced engines
Because the reality is, most licensed game engines cost far more money than you can imagine.
I doubt you really have any idea how advanced C4 actually is.

You guys are both here complaining about what engine they are using, suggesting this engine and that engine all the while not understanding that developer licenses for game engines are expensive, yet you two haven't bothered to donate to PR. If the devs get more donations, since they are not selling this game, they'll maybe have more money to buy more advanced and expensive game engines. I imagine they went with the C4 engine because it offers everything they want and is within their budget. I believe they have to buy a developer license for each person working on the game and those licenses can be upwards of $1,000's of dollars.CrustyDoom wrote:It sounds like they're only using c4 because it's free. But unreal engine is free, very easy to work with, and visuals are way up there. The only thing that makes C4 look better than BF2's engine is the lighting. I'm not sure why BSS won't go with the more advanced engines, but it's rather dissapointing. Sure i care more about gameplay than graphics, but when you stop to look around the illusion is broken. When newer, better engines are available it doesn't make sense to go with something worse. That being said, judging by their work of the Bf2 engine, they will probably bring out the best in C4.
Honestly, if the devs can overcome the limitations of the BF2 engine but still keep what makes it great with PR2, I don't care if the graphics look like how they do now. Isn't that why we are all playing PR instead of MW2 or something else? The coolest thing I'd like to see, is maybe 128+ players. 256 would be awesome!

Anyone saying "PR2 will be graphically **** because the screens of C4 I've seen are all poor" are very mistaken in thinking that:
Screenshots from current games = engine capabilities.
Want to know the kinda level that the team will be aiming at with PR2? Go to Project Reality : Battlefield 2 Mod - Project Reality 2 and the third picture, the model of the old guy? That's the kind of standard that's be possible in the C4 engine.
C4 was not chosen because it's free (which it's not - each developer has a license to cover) but because it's an indie engine that's still in development - meaning some aspects of our needs can possibly be tailored for in the engine's development; because it's good to support another indie developer; because it is a very well-written engine indeed; and because, frankly, it fits our needs just fine. We're happy with the choice and it certainly beats paying out several hundred thousand dollars for a license for a corporately-owned engine.

Re: I will buy Project Reality
its a real sahme that PR2 will only have 62 players per server wasn't it on the FAQ
is this offical because i'd like to see a couple more players not like 128 but around 80 give or take a few and since the maps are hopefully going to be larger then i'd like to see a couple more players.
EDIT:

EDIT:
66 upto 98 players why such a big unknowing gap?How many players will be supported?
We are hoping to support a minimum of 33 players per team (4 x 8 man squads + 1 Commander, per side) for a total of 66 players. Ideally we'll support 98 players total preferably up to 130 (8 x 8 man squads + 1 Commander per team).

I bought Frontlines, and the game lagged really hard. I even put the game on the low graphics, and it lagged. And you can look at my computer specs, and my computer is no tech schmuck. I think I played it once, and that was it. The overall idea for it wasn't bad, but like Snazz said, it has a TON of bugs.Snazz wrote:Besides the creators of the successful Desert Combat mod used the Unreal engine to make a standalone game called Frontlines, it had numerous issues and lacked many features that BF2 has. Yeah, what Masaq said. So I was actually pretty interested in this now that someone mentioned that there are C4 screenshots, so I went and found their main site: Terathon Software and looked through their images gallery. This is an image taken from (I assume another game using the engine) something called "The Visible Dark". I have to say, the graphics, lighting and shadow effects as well as the detail of the environment are pretty amazing:'[R-DEV wrote:Masaq;1272915']Anyone saying "PR2 will be graphically **** because the screens of C4 I've seen are all poor" are very mistaken in thinking that:

The only qualm I have about PR2 is that they have suggested a monthly subscription model to play it. I've never liked the idea of a subscription model for playing games in the past and so I've never played a game that went this direction, but maybe PR might be the first game to convince me to pay to play monthly. Still, I'd rather they just sold the game and maybe charged for DLC later down the road.

Checkout this youtube video of the Ingame play of the game Visible Dark, using the C4 engine. Man, if PR looked as good as this game, I am sold, it definitely is a next-gen game engine.

Paid updates sucks balls. Not everyone buys them and it divides the community. Often the servers are empty, like the BF2 booster pack DLC.ANDROMEDA wrote:I would also prefer this option. And paid updates.

not paid updates i don't want to find 50 servers runing an old ver because they can't afford the new patch and it devides the community between people who can afford it and people who cba.
also as i said how many FPS's do you know that you pay monthly for?

Well free updates too, would be very nice))) Although what was so difficult to pay for 1 or 2 updates a year? And look in the PR browser. Is there a lot of servers of 0.7 or 0.8 version??
